Interesting. Where can I find this, please?

“Obviously, things happened, and that was kind of it for me," Laine said. “I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year. I was tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December to start focusing on next year. I’m not going to do that. That’s frustrating as a player when you’re trying to win and some people are, you know, not like that.
“They’re a little too satisfied and too comfortable where they’re at. It wasn’t really a fit for me anymore. But here (in Montreal), it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing, we’re always trying our best. That’s what I felt about it (in Columbus).”

Laine has always rubbed me the wrong way but I think that has more to do with his cult of Finnish fanboys than the guy himself.

In any case, I'm glad he got out of that loser organization where no one cares about winning and landed himself a trade to... Montreal.

After reading Laine's comments about Columbus I wonder how he can expect anyone to root for his little pseudo redemption arc.
What a self-absorbed loser.

I really don't care. Players are allowed to care about themselves.

I ask very little of the players on my team. Don't be criminals who harm others, and don't harm the team. I personally certainly wouldn't go public with this kind of thing, probably ever, but sports are more interesting when people do.

Laine would be convincing if he regularly did the little things to help his team win, rather than just be a high volume shooter.

must be nice to have a gm who can fire staff and do his own hiring. instead of being told some people are untouchable...
Yes, it's great to have an incompetent GM with no checks on his mistakes.
Oh, been there and done that (Hextall).

Been there? We never left. His only mistake the team disliked was no sucking up to Clarke. They kept damned near all his hockey decisions and processes. He was transformational in all the worst ways and they love it.

True. A little bit of drama here and there makes it more interesting. And I guess it doesn't hurt when players actively make themselves unlikeable. Always nice when there's players/teams to root against.

Players, in fact, should care about themselves. They don't owe anyone anything, just like you or me.

The horror! I'd rather this than towing the company line any day. Laine has more self respect than the Blue Jackets evidently
