Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

Mojo has been very mediocre for long long parts of the season. He has heated up since ~Feb/March but before that? I mean he has 34 points as a mainstay second line winger. That in and of itself is abysmal. Again, better lately and really turned it on at the right time, but if we talk "season" his season was not good enough.
Timely goals down the stretch and the only F capable of zone entries and pace. Value provided clearly exceeds $2M.

Agree or disagree: everyone besides Trenin performed up to or exceeded their cap hit this season (on a per game basis). Meaning, Brodin may have been under a $6M defensman in terms of aggregate value, but when he was in the lineup he was a $6M player or better. Spurgeon is the other one that I think may not have lived up to his contract, but it would be close. He was good when he was in the lineup.
I think Brodin and Spurgeon have lived up to their contracts when healthy, but that's always the qualifier with those two.

I think Hartman is the only guy I would say has played below his current contract value. He's had a few flashes of the player he was 2-3 years ago, but only flashes. If he can end up somewhere in between that player and the one he was most of this year, he'll probably just live up to his contract price. Maybe it's karmic? He was outperforming his cost by so much for a good while, now maybe karma is just balancing him out?

Hartman the most disappointing player for me. I don’t blame Faber, he’s been run into the ground with ice time and injuries. But Hartman often is lazy and a floater and he’s not nearly skilled enough to get away with it. We really could’ve used some scoring depth and he just didn’t seem super interested.

I also have a weird theory that he needs a new curve. Pucks slide off his stick so much when he tries to shoot.

Hoping we get rid of him. Sucks because he’s a fairly versatile RHS on paper, but I’m just ready to move on.

We were saying the same thing about Gaudreau last year. The inconsistency is annoying.

Parekh scored last night for CAL, and didn't look out of place, apparently. Bodes well for Buium, though playing a LAK team that was resting their top players in a meaningless game is different than playing a VGK in the playoffs.

I will be fascinated to see how the top 6 D from the 2024 draft class pan out over the years. Lotta talent, and different kinds of talent.

Parekh might honestly be even more skilled than Buium. He’s really good

It's almost like they're human.
When I listen to Zulgad on Purple Daily or JHS, it’s always so interesting to see how little people know when it comes to sports science and human performance. “He should be giving this effort every game” (usually talking about Boldy) is one saying that shows people should take a class or two on coaching and sports science. I took one class in college for sports coaching and it was eye opening. Gave me a new level of respect for players that bring it in 90% of their games, like Kaprizov.

We should refer to this line of reasoning as the “Charlie Coyle defense”

I think it's more about perspective. In your own workplace how many people are on their "A" game for their entire work week?

I know personally there are days that I just should have stayed in bed instead of going to work. I accomplished nothing and made things worse in some cases.

Same. That was my favorite draft class in a long time. So many intriguing players, especially the defensemen.

Today is definitely one of those days for me. Thankfully, I haven’t made anything worse… yet (45 mins to go, fingers crossed).

Well, from experience, don't take any simple repair jobs that should be done in 30 mins. You'll be there for 3 days because a bolt head snapped off (or something similar).

I'm sorry, but if you play 25 minutes a night, you're working for ~35 hours a year. It's not too much to ask to be mentally there. Physically, of course bumps and bruises and ailments can take away performance. Mentally shouldn't be a problem.

Athletes are so coddled.

Just watch the average compete level of college athletes and then tell me about how hard it is to bring it every night.

If nhl players salaries were based purely on performance you’d see them bringing it every night

Yep, they just show up and play 25 mins every other night and that's it. No film, practices, training, travel, injuries, or anything else is involved with their job.

I agree top league pro athletes are more coddled than the average US worker, but their "job" skillset is also something we really can't comprehend. I'm pretty sure I'd end up in the hospital if a player like Foligno finished a check on me.

That's what the money is for.

I guess I lost what we're talking about.
I’m stuck on you saying NHL players work less hours in a year than most normal full time employees work in a single week. I can’t tell if you’re being purposefully disingenuous or you actually believe that.

Not only that, but you cite the hours and demand people to be 100% mentally “there” as if work is the only thing that can mentally tax on a person.

Has anyone else heard that it seems all but certain that we're going to get a new jersey next season for the 25th anniversary? I guess it's supposed to be inspired by or based on this one maybe?

Honestly if they just made an updated version where the gold was the metallic flake like the Bruins and Knights have, same number font, that would be incredible.

Russo confirmed it on his latest podcast but wouldn’t give out any other details. I just hope it looks as good as the retros do.
