Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

"they’re not sure if one, both or neither return tomorrow."

Why the f*** even bother typing that out? He should have just said, 'No one knows a GD thing.'

Cripes. Honestly, they're on the fence with it at all, don't even think about putting either of them back in. Hold them out another week. Don't push that shit.

Safe to say that Kap and Ek are NOT fully healed and are only being rushed back to try and save their playoff lives.

Perrault just didn't interest me more than some other players. He's a LHS winger that was the 3rd FWD on that USDT line (IIRC). With Rossi, Boldy, Yurov, and Ohgren as other recent 1st round pick LHS wings, along with Kap (ideally staying) the need for LHS FWDs just wasn't anything close to a need.

I wanted a RHS FWD, ideally a center, in the draft and that pushed Ritchie to the front at the time. Bonk was also someone I was considering do the the lack of RD in the system. TBH I didn't see a clear BPA so team needs played into my thinking.

I remember there were some that were pretty high on Edstrom in the predraft talk on here.
I was one of the Edstrom guys. He was the guy I wanted there, but I was also interested in Wahlberg and Ritchie, then Bonk, Nadeau, and Perrault at the next tier. Honestly, I should have had Nadeau higher, but I got scared off by how Newhook, Jost, and Jankowski turned out compared to expectations.

Basically Minnesota things.

Rush both back to make the playoffs. They get injured again and are in and out of the lineup next year. Sign Kaprizov to a huge extension and he never plays a full season.

Taking a completely negative view of outcomes is not "Minnesota things."

We have to remember that at the time of the Stramel pick, the team needs were for a big Center, as Rossi, at that time looked, like an ineffective, weak little guy at the NHL level. I was for Ritchie(CHL/NHL), Edstrom(SHL), Wahlberg(AHL), Stenberg(already in AHL. STL pick, who has one hell of a scouting dept.).

No idea how things will turn out for him in the NHL, but Cristall might've been the big miss. Hard to pick him at the time, though, as he is a wing, and smaller than Heidt. Having a killer season, though.

I was one that was begging the team not to pick Stramel based on what he showed under Granato.

He has 2 really poor NCAA seasons and 1 really good all situation season. I don’t expect much offense from him. I expect him to learn to shutdown opposing teams and not be a detriment to the team. If he can do that, the pick was fine overall.

If he can be a tough guy, like Trent Frederic tough, then the pick won't be a total loss. There's always a place for a big, tough, guy who can skate a bit, and isn't a total loss skill wise.

He doesn’t need to be nasty to be useful. He needs to win puck battles, win draws and use his length. I think he has a better chance to be a Stenlund type than a Frederic

Sure, and everybody's own feelings about goalies in the 1st round aside, goalie of the future was just as big of a need as scoring forward.

Also, probably need to remember that Johnston, like most CHL players, played 0 CHL hockey games in 2020-21.
Goalie is one of those positions where I think you just get lucky & it’s not wise to use draft capital or real capital on. Very rarely does a team benefit having a long-term goalie that they have to pay the equivalent of a 1st line player.

Sometimes you have to try and make your own luck and spend the capitol.

I think taking Wally as a 1st was okay considering the circumstances. MN had 2 x 1st round picks, MN had a big need for a goalie, and it was a lost season for a lot of draft age players due to COVID canceling/shortening their seasons.

All other times I'll probably be against spending a 1st on a goalie. Take a goalie once every other draft with a 3rd or later and see how if develop is my normal line of thinking. It's such a crap shoot of a position because the mental side is so important and that's hard to really judge with 18yo kids.

Team is going nowhere, until we have a GM who can properly balance grit WITH offense. Tired of overpaying one too many bottom 6 players who are gritty but slow and offensively challenged.

This is why it bums me out that Fenton didn't get to finish building the team. He was making the team younger and was setup to make some waves once Kap signed.

There was someone at the hockey lodge tonight with a Buium #8 jersey
