I really hope we're not in trouble with that % of the cap talk. I read it 3 times, and each time I'm hoping I misread it.
Leipold has never been a cheap owner, so I don’t understand why they’d even consider an internal cap. Tightening the checkbook unless he gets his publicly funded upgrades I guess.

10 games, that's about right. He better not f around anymore, next time he might get 25 or 40.

Seems a bit excessive tbh. He’s probably under more scrutiny from his faceoff antics with Perfetti.

No, it’s just the extreme to get the point across. Brock Faber makes $200k less than prime Sidney Crosby’s cap hit, if you want something more recent. It’s basically just standard economics.
Ok, Matthews signed for 13.25 on what will be 2 years prior and Leon signed for 14 on what will be one year prior. If Kaprizov hasn't had even one season better than those two, how can you justify paying him that much, let alone more?

Matthews has 3 Rocket Richards and an MVP. Kaprizov hasn't even been voted on to one of the two end of season all star teams.

That's why Kaprizov is getting 13%, not 15%.

But his agent is going to look at Matthews' three near or above PPG teammates that year and every other year, and then he's going to look at what the Wild have surrounded Kaprizov with. That will come into play. These negotiations aren't done in a vacuum only looking at the players stats and awards. We're not gonna sign Kaprizov for 10M just because the best player the Wild could get for him in the last 5 years is Mats Zuccarello.

And they're definitely going to look at this season when Kaprizov was right there with McDavid, MacKinnon and Draisaitl in scoring prior to the injury, again, with nowhere near the supporting cast.

Maybe you can say in a vacuum, Kaprizov shouldn't make as much as Matthews, though I'm not sure that's the player I'd pick if I were you. But it's all moot because this isn't happening in a vacuum. There are real life economic factors at play here that affect these outcomes whether we like it or not. And this type of situation has been happening since the dawn of a salary cap that increases most years. Players, especially the UFA ones, get a bigger number than guys who signed in years prior. The more time has passed, the bigger the difference. This is just how the world works.

Matthews signed for 4 years, not 8, and also Kaprizov can skip his way to free agency.

A larger suspension would be ridiculous, there are far more dangerous and reckless plays than this. Whole entire reaction to this is overblown.
He slammed a guys head on the ice because we were losing. There really isn’t an other side to this.
