What are people thinking boeser and Nelson will get?

Probably 6-8 m each? I tink there's quite a market out there for them with the cap rising. A lot if teams looking for secondary scoring.

I hope both won't come here, I wanna see Yurov first. This season shouldn't be the Wild's "All in" season, its when the dead miney expires. Re-sign Gus, Kap & Rossi and go all in 2026.

I think I'd take the risk with Boeser if it's under $9M. Rossi gets 3 x $6.5M to make it happen (which he might actually want anyway vs. long-term).

I wouldn't even approach 9M for Boeser. He's not as good a player as Boldy, and while I understand he's a UFA and most of Boldy's years were RFA years, it would feel gross to pay Boeser 8M. He's worth about 6.5M, max.

I'm also not confident that he'll age well at all.

I'm also not sure I see why Rossi should accept 6.5M. He's already worth more than that, I don't see him taking that for 3 whole years.

I'm of two minds. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in another top six forward because our cup don't exactly runneth over in that regard, but I also don't want to sign a long term, high AAV guy like Boeser because I want to have space to bring in all the prospects and extend them if necessary. I also don't really care bout Nelson, and I'm not a fan of signing another 34 year old to ride out his sunset years here, but in theory he would at least be a shorter term and lower AAV than Boeser.

What I'd really prefer is to find a deal like Dallas did with Matt Duchene. Yes he's 33/34, but it was a one year deal and he's absolutely killing it. Toronto did that with Tyler Bertuzzi a couple years ago and that didn't go as well. But find a veteran who's scored previously who's looking to prove himself on a 1-2 year deal. Not sure who that would be this summer. Not a lot of great names out there from what I can tell.

The ELCs of our prospects are timed so that this really isn’t an issue though.

Unless you think he's getting $10M+ on a long-term deal, $6.5M for a short-term deal is reasonable.

Trade hartman and see if you can make the "home town guys" take a bit of a discount. This team would have 3 scoring lines and a very good 4th line. The defense should continue to be one of the best. Make it happen

It’s fairly clear why they are waiting. Rossi is among the smallest Cs in the NHL, we still have to lock down 97, Rossi’s agent is a tough negotiator and nobody knew what the cap was going to look like. Then there is the biggest reason — why create a distraction with a potentially hostile negotiation during the season?

We all like Rossi and wish to see him extended. But there are plenty of reasons for the delays. He's never been as safe a player to project longterm as Faber or Boldy, so it makes sense the FO wanted to see more before they locked him down.

So, we're 16th in the league in PP%, and 30th in PK%. Losing Kap is going to hurt our PP a lot, as he took care of the zone entries and was the main focus. PK... I don't know what to say. Our goalies are playing well otherwise, so i'm hesitant to blame them. We also have some good D, otherwise, so blaming them seems weird.
If it's a personnel problem, then they are being poorly GM'ed. A scheme problem, then they are being poorly coached. I think it's more the latter than the former.
It's unacceptable, frankly. This incompetence has gone on far too long, and costs us games.

PK scheme has largely killed them for several years before switching it to a more traditional set up in the last couple months.

At this point it’s personnel. Your centers that PK cannot win draws at a higher enough rate and seem to especially struggle in more higher leverage draws. Their best defensemen also struggle on the PK. Spurgeon and Brodin are terrible on the PK because they get beat to their spots and cannot move the opposing player off of it. Your only hope with them is they are better than average getting in lanes to block shots and disrupt passes. But their physical deficiencies hurt the PK a ton. For all the good Faber provides, even on the defensive end, I feel he really struggles on the PK in this league. Not really sure why, he’s got all the tools, it may be experience thing, but he finds himself on the wrong side of the puck and player often on the PK for some reason.

I think its a combination of both, personell and coaching. They're killing the PK when they're moving their feet an stay active on the PK and try to intercept the Zone entries. They're not effective when they're staying in front of the net and try to block shooting lanes instead of attacking the puck.

Also I think it's kinda personell thing too. Khus & Freddy G hardly ever win a faceoff in the own zone. When Ek was out basically every PK-faceoff was kinda free play for the oponent PP. The Middelton injury hurts the PK as well. And so far, Trenin has not been the PK weapon Guerin praised him to be when they signed him. I think it's safe to say: So far Trenin has been useless to this team.

Hartman & Foligno losung a step didn't help the PK neither.

As for PP I'm not that concerned. Whit Kap out we still have Boldy/Rossi/Faber/ to do the zone entries. They relied on Kap but I think with some training during the 4-nations tournament they could fix the PP.

Looking at our PK historically, I see this:

19-20: 78.6%
20-21: 82%
21-22: 76.9%
22-23: 87.5%
23-24: 75.7%
24-25: 73%

• It's the worst it's ever been.
• It's been up and down from one year to the next.
• Bob Woods was the defensive coach from 17-18 until this season. I would suspect he also rank the PK, but I'm not sure.
  • If it wasn't him, it was Darby Hendrickson, who was here for all the same years and left the same year.
  • I have no idea who is running it now.
• I don't see an obvious pattern... except one.
  • Personnel and coaching have changed repeatedly in this time and it doesn't seem to matter much. Sometimes the PK is good, sometimes it's average, and usually it's bad. Some of the personnel has also been the same throughout the entire period, Spurgeon and Brodin in particular, but also Dumba and even Suter for a third of it (but not the best PK year).
  • 22-23 was the year we obtained Gustavsson, and he was lights out. He was a .931 that year
  • The best goaltending of the other years in this sample was .915 by Talbot in 20-21, the next best PK year.
  • The worst goaltending came in 23-24 (Gus .899 & Fleury .895), our wost PK year before this season.
    • Is this the goalies making the PK good, or the structure making the goalies good? Given the lack of any other clear patterns, I'm inclined to believe the former.

I think, if Gus can hold steady around .915, we'll see the PK% rebound in this second half of the season. It's entirely possible that there were some unlucky bounces during the time when Gus was playing extremely well early this year that deflate the numbers beyond what they should have been. Of course, if Gus does not hold steady around .915, the PK won't rebound as much,,, but then his save% for the year will reflect that and be consistent with our poor PK% anyway, so math.

If there's some other pattern that is leading to the disappointing PK, I'm open to hearing about it, but I don't see it unless you point it out to me.

If it’s $8M for 6 or 7 years then $6.5M or $7M for 3 years isn’t out of line at all.
