Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

Pretty interesting seeing where each player is compared to the other players in the division and just how great Kaprizov has been this year. At the top the league offensively and defensively and only McDavid, Draisaitl and Kucherov playing at his level.
Wild players with positive Net Ratings (current):

Kaprizov +27
Rossi +13
Boldy +11
Middleton +9
JEE +8
Faber +8
Brodin +8
Zuccarello +7
Spurgeon +7
Foligno +5

All other players are in the negative ratings. Hartman and Johansson are the best of those at -1, followed by Trenin and Chisholm at -2.

Nothing too surprising there, except maybe that Foligno is quietly having a pretty strong year, and Trenin gets shat on more than he should. He's rated well enough to play our third line rather than fourth, and while I don't think a player can be summed up completely accurately with a single number, there is likely some truth to it (unless we think Kaprizov hasn't been far and away the best skater on the team, followed distantly by Rossi and Boldy).
Also, Lauko and Khusnutdinov are rated fairly significantly below Jon Merrill. Huh.

Forwards are expected to produce some offense and Lauko and Marat have been awful at it. The eye test tells us Merrill is terrible but unless we are getting lit up when he's on the ice, it makes sense to me that his "value" is higher than two forwards who only show up on the score sheet every 8 or 9 games.

well Russo just confirmed on KFAN it was Kaprizov and agent were the ones who decided on Surgery. Russo also said in his opinion he thinks this will make it easier to sign Kaprizov because he will think Kaprizov will take the money Wild offer so he doesnt have to worry about injury costing him money in future.
Me reading this after reading Webster’s comments the situation:

Foligno is really a premier defensive wing - the advanced stats have supported that assessment for years. He doesn’t offer much offense at all, but his defense and physicality make him a useful player. I’ve always agreed with Guerin in that if we moved him, we’d be looking to acquire another version of him right away.

Chisholm - bit overrated around here. I have no issues with him walking. He’s a decent third pair guy, but not worthy of blocking Jiricek or Buium next fall. I think those two plus Bogo should make for a solid 3rd pair. Plus Spacek & Lambos are decent insurance.
