Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

It's my opinion. And even if he plays at 60% he'd still be a pretty good player. I'd say surgery now is a gamble with the risk of a longer recovery than expected.
That’s ridiculous. Nobody wants to see Kirill gut it out at 60% rest of season. Anyone that says otherwise is a moron.

Just traded a boat load for kappy in my fantasy league and now this is killing me, lol
Hope there is no more setbacks and he actually makes it back within a month or so..

That's fine if it's your opinion, but you didn't acknowledge that anywhere in your post. You straight up said, "he wants to play, and get this fixed in the offseason." You were implying that he was upset at the team when there was zero truth to any of it.

I think Wild stand pat through the TDL now. See if this team can rally. Would be an interesting situation getting Kap back, maybe adding Zeev and Yurov, for a playoff push.

Your opinion is a bit off.

Guerin said Kaprizov didn’t aggravate the injury.

“He just never came around,” Guerin said. “So this is something that we feel, he feels, his agent feels, that is just necessary.”
Guerin and coach John Hynes said Kaprizov is immensely disappointed because he did everything the doctors and trainers asked over the past five weeks.

Kaprizov told Hynes he was playing at only “60 percent,” and even though Kaprizov at 60 percent is better than most players in the league, Hynes said it wasn’t up to the standard Kaprizov expects to be at to help the team win “and I think that’s what bothers him the most.”
“Since he came back, he was very uncomfortable, but he was gutting through it,” Hynes said. “There’s just probably some components to his game that he truly felt were lacking, that he’s not being able to be the guy he is.

“Even on the bench at times, he was struggling to get through it. He did, and we did, everything we could to see if it would work for him, but it didn’t. So now we got to go this direction.”

Finally, it was determined that Kaprizov should get this fixed now rather than continue to fight through it.

“I don’t think it’s the best thing for a player to try to gut it out in this situation, because I think you leave yourself open to other injuries,” Guerin said. “I think the best thing to do is to shut him down right now for a little while, fix the problem and then get him back to 100 percent.

But I thought Russo said they didn’t want to put Brodin on LTIR so they could accrue the massive $40k in cap savings for a TDL acquisition

Not a very inspiring quote that he seemingly doesn’t understand the salary cap, but it does track with how he hands out contracts.

I'd be surprised if even a quarter of the GMs in the league understand the cap fully, and I think that's even the way it should be. These guys are effectively CEOs. I want my CEOs doing their job (making informed decisions), not doing the accounting team's job (collecting and analyzing the information to inform the CEO with). If Guerin was pretending to be an expert at something that's outside the scope of his job, I'd be extremely worried about the Wild. I'm much happier he's listening to experts and admitting that he's doing so with a self-effacing humor.

I'm not seeing any way that this changes deadline plans though. I mean, that's assuming both Brodin and Kaprizov will be back before the end of the regular season. We still don't accrue cap space with them on LTIR, it really just allows us to call up guys from the AHL.

I still don't see a way they'll be able to do anything at the deadline without sending equal cap out, but maybe I'm missing something.

this is bad news if you believe we are making the playoffs this year. sure wish our gm billy boy would have added a contingency to giving up our 1st for jiricek to make or miss the playoffs. going forward im in the fire billy camp.

Yeah, they can’t do anything at the TDL & they were never going to be able to with how close to the cap they’ve been all season.

Guerin either seemingly doesn’t know this or they actually are going to attempt to keep someone on LTIR to the playoffs.

Team is still making playoffs

Not so smart to piss him off, he wants to play and get this fixed in the off-season.

Question is if Guerin just made it a lot harder to get him re-signed.

well Russo just confirmed on KFAN it was Kaprizov and agent were the ones who decided on Surgery. Russo also said in his opinion he thinks this will make it easier to sign Kaprizov because he will think Kaprizov will take the money Wild offer so he doesnt have to worry about injury costing him money in future.

some of you just don't get it. hey if we could add brandon saad for 1 mill would you do it?
In clear playoff position despite all the injuries. Prospect pool is among the best in the league. We have a few overpaid vets but the franchise is in great position.

I'd consider it, but would need to know what's been going on with him. I haven't been watching the Blues, but Blues fans don't speak very highly of Saad this year.

Firing Guerin means replacing him with someone else. Who would you hire, what do you think would they do better than Guerin has, what do you think they would do worse than Guerin has, and regarding the answers to these questions, why do you think that?

Saad has been better than Johansson, who is injured. Kaprizov out a month plus. Secondary scoring has been terrible.

There are top 6 minutes available for him.

But I think the market for him is going to be stronger than 1m toi finish out the year. I bet his prorated deal is closer to 2.5 m aav.

Probably puts the wild out of it.
