Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

It’s time to bring Granny home
The Minnesota Wild have traded for Mikael Granlund, and loaned him to HIFK in an effort to accrue cap space. Asked about this unforeseen turn of events, Granlund said "Just wait for my next postage stamp." Asked about the surprising move, Bill Guerin said "Granlund is a great player, but doesn't fit our culture. This should give us room to go after Brandon Tanev."

Sorry, my mind went down the one road, and all the others just opened up before me and I couldn't resist exploring them. I would love to have Granlund back for the right price this year.

We are 5 points clear of 2nd wildcard spot and in full blown flounder mode ala typical wild. Nothing looks right , Gus is back to normal and Kap will take a while to get going again.

But if the second wild card spot passes us, we're still sitting in the second wild card spot.

We're actually 10 points ahead of Vancouver and St Louis, who would need to pass us for us to fall out of the playoffs, and neither of them are doing any better than we are lately.

Plus, eventually we'll break out of this slump, and while we won't win the division when we do, we'll be plenty good enough to stay ahead of teams like Vancouver, St Louis, Utah and Seattle.

How much are we clear of the 9th place team? Get us the hell out of this division anyways. I’m happy to play anyone in the Pacific; we’d be playing at 9PM anyways.

Shit I glanced at the standing and missed that totally , it would take an epic collapse to fall that far I guess

Rossi is sitting now at 43 points in 49 games in his sophomore season. 2nd in scoring behind Kap on this team. You can't even say that he's carried by Kap the past few weeks. He most likely will end up with 70+ points.

Guerin, take out your checkbook now. I'd much rather pay a 23 year old sophmore than an 34 year old vet like Nelson.

Boldy has not been doing anything for a while now. How many times did he try to stickhandle through 4 opposing players at the blue line this time? He does not move his feet, holds on to the puck way too long and when he shoots he misses the net. He really needs to get his act together.

He’s going to have a contentious salary negotiation. His agent is a blowhard. I am guessing Guerin & Rossi don’t want the distraction and are waiting til after the season.

Should let him continue to play with Zucc and Rossi for a while, he played well there. Kaprizov is obviously rusty and should start easy on a different line.

Easy now. You might be labeled a Boldy hater with comments like these.

Anyway, that reverse jinx worked. Boldy has already gotten an assist tonight.

If that's all we're lookin for, shouldn't have been an issue to begin with, 11 points in his last 10 games, 5 points in his last 5 games.

I think he's been relatively unlucky for a stretch. What I will say, even though Boldy does have good numbers on zone entries is that for my money Boldy plays a lot better when he is paired with another forward who has great speed and can carry the puck through the neutral zone and when Boldy does have the puck push defenses back with speed that Boldy can then fill.

Unfortunately, Johansson is not the player that he was for that stretch whenever that was and there's no Fiala on this roster to be found. I kind of think that the Wild should do:

Kaprizov-Ek-Boldy
____-Rossi-Zucc

I don't think they will do this, and I think the second best option is Rossi/Boldy. If the Wild do make a move, I'd love to see a rental of a player who can fit this mold. We've seen with Nyquist and Johansson in that one year that it doesn't have to be an elite player but it can be a player with certain traits.

Ohgren is worth seeing if he can work. The theory of him does some of these things. That being said, and I haven't seen every game, but Boldy probably hit 5-6 posts in a few game stretch a few weeks back. I think he does have some consistency issues, but really IMO he should have 4-5-6 more goals this season.

Better tonight but he is still making wrong decisions with the puck too often. We need Boldy to score goals he is a shooter first and foremost or at least that's my impression of what the team needs. He is deferring when he should take initiative and should defer when he thinks he can stickhandle through 3 guys. Only did it once tonight though so there is an improvement.

What is frustrating me regarding Boldy is that you always have the feeling he could be so much better! The skills and the stretches of great play are clearly there, he is just lacking the consistency still. Not sure if Ohgren is the right fit at the moment but there is nobody else really availbe to play with Rossi and Boldy right now. Johansson might be a good boost for that line. But right now everyone will be a stopgap only. The Wild are still looking for that 6th Top 6 forward.
