Matthews, Kerfoot for EEK, Kaprizov.

Minnesota gets the best player of the trade and one of the best centers of the game, who's still pretty young. Toronto kinda retools, gets a Selke caliber centerman and becomes bigger and more defensive down middle and getts one of the most dynamic wingers in hockey. I guess it should help the team in playoffs.

As someone who thinks Matthews chronically gets rated way too high by leaf fans and hockey media, he’s still a young 1C who is one of the best players in the game.

No way Toronto considers this, especially when they’re not even saving any cap space here. Kaprisov has proven so little, he is not even close in value to Matthews and adding a 2C upgrade on Kerfoot doesn’t come close to mitigating that value difference.

Toronto counter offer = all of Russia's natural resources for a Campbell's Soup factory built over there.

I don’t get why this is a thread. Minnesota can’t afford to have someone with an $11.6M cap hit. They can’t even really afford Kaprizov’s $9M cap hit without likely cap casualties this upcoming offseason (Fiala, Greenway). I don’t know why Toronto would even consider trading Matthews.

Neither team should make this move.

What is it about a young 1C who likely would have scored 60 goals in a full season in 2020-21 that Leafs fans shouldn't be rating him high?
Would he have likely score 60 goals? No.

Has he ever put together a monster season? No.

Great player but he’s never had a single season accomplishment worthy of being considered the 2nd best player on the planet by some. His reputation at this point is buoyed by pace and p/60 arguments and the only reason he is rated so highly, is because of the team he plays for

Ya exactly its not like he scored the most goals of any player in a season before. Totally has zero accomplishments.

If EEK means JEE, then no. The value is debatable, as Mathews is clearly the best player, though Kaprizov and JEE are pretty clearly on an upward trajectory, but once you factor in contracts then MN doesn't consider it. JEE is signed for 8 more years at a rate that I believe will be a bargain in only a few years. Kap...less of a bargain, but is signed for 5 years, and signs are that he will be worth it. Mathews is probably worth his money, though you'd like to see more playoff success, but the bottom line is that he will need to be re-signed way sooner than the other two, and will be a bugger to re-sign. What's he going to want, 14M? 15M?

No thanks for MN, especially considering the cap penalties that MN is facing over the next three years. He suits the Leafs competitive time line way better.

Kerfoot is a nothing burger.

Pretty much this no ones trading a 1C for a 1W and adding a 2 slash elite 3C doesn't change that.
