With minus $14M to its salary cap and John Hynes as head coach...

I think he's had success in short bursts before, but man he has to have a lot of friends that work in upper management in the business to keep getting jobs after putting up pretty bad results. He's 4-15 in the playoffs in his career.

In before the PDO crowd... Which is valid, anyone in this type of streak is PDOing hard.

What's interesting with the wild, is it's the goaltending that's leading to the upsurd PDO. Usually it's the shooting which can be far more random.

But the wild are leading the league in xGA and the goalies are just making the saves. Their actual goals against mirror their expected mostly.

They’re playing with great structure and Gus is playing like one of the best goalies in the NHL. Boldy and Kaprizov are stars. Rossi has taken another step. They’re very well coached. Lots of positives. The reality is this team isn’t deep enough to be a true contender though. Maybe next year when we have the cap space to fill out the rest of the roster, but we can’t score enough this year imo. Solid playoff team. Might win a round.

That's what happened with Vancouver last season. They scored a lot early and then took 30 low danger shots against and made the numbers all screwy.

They're not scoring alot though. They are 12th in scoring. They just give nothing up defensively

They have played 25 games of an 82 game season.

Let's see where they're at in a few weeks after they play Edmonton/Vegas/Winnipeg/Florida in a 4 of 6 game stretch between the 12th and the 21st.

We don't deserve a main board thread until we can get past the first round.

Seriously though, as much fun as this ride has been, they are realistically still a bubble team. They won't be able to maintain this run all year just like the Jets weren't gonna go the rest of the way without losing another game. Every team is gonna hit a rough patch.....some more than others. There is a lot of hockey left, and clubs are gonna shuffle up and down the standings. It'd be stupid to put the cart before the horse at this point. They've had great goaltending, Kap has been awesome, and everyone is buying into the plan on paper. But they've lost Zuccarello, have potentially lost Brodin long term, and Ek is playing injured. It ain't gonna be easy.

This post illustrates why PDO is such an annoying statistic.

Three paragraphs to say “they’re playing good defense and getting good goaltending”, which doesn’t require PDO to determine.

To be fair, I think we're 2-1-1 against 3 of those 4 so far this year.
