That's a steep price to pay. Definitely a seller's market.
Yeah. It's definitely shaping up looking that way. There just aren't many teams that are clear "sellers" this year, with too many teams on the bubble and in the mix. And a lot of the "sellers" either don't really have much of use to sell, or aren't really looking to move pieces, but actually add more for next year.
I mean what do we really have
for sure on the market?
Buffalo - Zucker, Greenway, Jokiharju unless they move younger guys under contract.
Montreal - Savard, Armia, Evans.
Pittsburgh - not even sure they sell, but with Pettersson already dealt away, i'm not sure there's much left anyway unless they manage to move a significant term contract like Rakell or Karlsson.
Philadelphia - Laughton, Kuzmenko in the most bargain of bargain bins i guess, maybe Ristolainen?
out west there's...
San Jose - already made their big moves, Kunin, Sturm left potentially.
Chicago - mostly washed up junk like Martinez, Athanasiou, Craig Smith, maybe Connor Murphy who has really fallen off?
Nashville - Nyquist here was really the main piece they had to move, unless they move a guy with term like Luke Schenn or Sissons or something.
Seattle - Brandon Tanev, Gourde but murky depending on health, everyone else has more term and dollars making them tougher to move at deadline.
Anaheim - Dumoulin, maybe Gibson if someone can figure out how to make the money work?
Not really blowing anyone's socks off with quality
or quantity. It's just a really weak crop of clear deadline deal "rental" candidates. Unless we see some "big moves" from bubble teams folding on the season...there's just not a lot of "impact players" available, so we may not see the crazy big deals at the very top-end, but it does look like these mediocre middle-tier guys like Gus Nyquist are gonna go for bigger than expected returns as the "best available".
