Made a lot of sense for him to wait and gauge the overall market considering the odd situation around the league due to the stagnant cap. Seeing Samsonov and Swayman's submitted numbers they probably feel more confident in their ranges to commit now. I bet the $2M for Swayman from Boston's side put a little fear into the agent as well to get things done before the Arb meeting and any contentiousness.

3 years $3.2M AAV is my guess, I think he keeps things pretty friendly after confirming that he wants to stay here.

I'd be really surprised if the AAV is that low at 3 years. Maybe at 2 years.

Oh-ho! I called the AAV in the Vezina thread. Nice!
Off on term by a couple years though. Not so nice. Let's forget that part.

This is a deal I'm quite fine with.

I like it for the player and the team. If he's a legit starter, then it will end up being a steal.

That’s a lot of money to pay for a guy that will probably play fewer games than Fleury yet again this year lol.

I like the deal, maybe slightly on the expensive side, but he has yet to demonstrate whether he still has room to truly grow or he is close to his ceiling.

This was such a bad trade for Ottawa, one they would likely take back.

This contract could be a good comparable for some younger goalies around the league, like Montembault on the habs.

A great deal for Minnesota. As long as Gustavsson keeps performing at even an average starter level, let alone what he produced last season, this will be well worth it.
