He showed promise early in his career but I think ever since he had that gaff against Montreal overtime playoffs his confidence has been shot to the point he’s really just an ok depth guy to have around as call up for a string of games.

Ahh, just remember when Maple Leafs fans were hyping him, saying Dermott > Sanheim, good times! Especially, when it was based a lot on WJC tournament, where he was given minutes over Sanheim. It was clear already back then that it was bad decision.

Something like Bracco > Konecny around those times on HFBoards, again hyped by Toronto fans.

I would claim him instead of wasting draft picks on a 7th-8th D man. He can play in the league.

Well, at least Provorov/Frost/Farabee are all still valuable players to their respective NHL teams, unlike Dermott, or Bracco (who's currently playing in Slovakia).

But sure, you are right that it happens through all fan bases. I just remember that this over-hyping was so evident back then in these particular cases, when they were so often brought up in the same sentences as Sanheim/Konecny.
