Even Gauthier, who was one pick ahead of Jiricek, didn’t get a massive return (Drysdale and a 2nd).6th overall in a weak draft. 9th overall in the same draft (savoie) was recently traded too for modest return.

Bogosian is 34 and hasn't played a full season in nearly 15 years. My bigger question is where Jiricek belongs with the Wild? All their RHD are occupied. I mean unless you trade away Bogosian he's on the 3rd pairing. But he is better than Jon Merrill.
CrazyInteresting that someone offered two top 10 1sts (sources said any 1sts included had to be top 10)
Who if you don't mind me askingWaddell's opening moves as the Jackets GM were to literally dispose of, for free, four equivalent defensemen all still in their early 20s that we'd had in the system and similarly "totally NHL ready we swear" (to the point of actually playing games) for the last year.
It is well known that the GM doesn't have much input in building NHL teams.Don Waddell is terrible, always has been. Definitely wasn’t the brains of the Carolina operation.
Not really, no. And when you see a 6'4+ prospect you'd hope he plays physical....well he doesn't. If he's going to hit his potential he's going to have to put on some serious weight and muscle. I think that might be part of why the CBJ FO wants to move, they told guys like LDBB, Mateychuk, KJ to go put on some muscle and work on some things and come back next year and try to steal a spot. Mateychuk and LDBB have established themselves as #1s in Cleveland this year and KJ is looking like he's establishing himself as a #1 in Columbus. Is Jiricek a decent defender, at least? I get(and don't like), that he is a mediocre skater.
At least he has two of the best RHD to look up to in Faber and Spurgeon. Also a cautionary tale in Bogosian... a former very high draft pick who pissed away a of of his career.
You might want to do some research. Jackets are on the cusp of a playoff spot after being unanimously believed to be a lottery team, which could still happen.. But it's being led by jackets draft picks, KJ looks like a #1 play driving winger who can do it all, Werenski is literally a #1-2 D in the entire league right now. Marchenko, Chinakov and Voronkov are all playing lights out. As is Elvis.Columbus management isn't exactly the best at judging or developing talent, so already sus lol.
Berni, Bean, Bjork, and Blankenburg. And arguably Boqvist also. All of whom "looked NHL ready" and even got quite a few NHL games but none of whom were retained... and, incidentally, none of whom have done much of anything since.Who if you don't mind me asking
Whomever told you Jordan Harris is good was trollingThis sure reminds me a whole lot of when folks were telling us that no, really, Jordan Harris is totally a good guy to get back as part of the Laine trade and he'll totally play useful minutes.
(Hint: He's arguably the most useless blueliner on our team, and that team has Jack Johnson on it.)
Why? He robbed Minnesota blindDon Waddell is terrible, always has been. Definitely wasn’t the brains of the Carolina operation.
All 1sts are equivalent now? Cool. Hold off while we go call up the Blackhawks and offer to swap Corson Ceulemans for Connor Bedard. How is this a brutal return. We’ve seen 1st round prospects swapped plenty in recent years. 4 picks including a 1st for one first round prospect. Key word prospect, Jiricek ain’t nothing yet.
Oh I know, and don't value Jiricek that high. it was more a comment on the theoretical value of draft picks. While true, it’s so foolish to value Jiricek as a 6th OA prospect. He’s not that anymore. If he gets drafted this year he’s maybe a mid to late first.
General managers are responsible for building a strong team around them. Should Waddell be celebrated for his time in Atlanta? It is well known that the GM doesn't have much input in building NHL teams.
I bet you also would crap on him for Atlanta though.
Again, normally one can safely assume that one's brand-new GM is at least minimally competent.Colombus posters swore they weren't gonna get fleeced this time... ,I personally am not high on Jiri I think it's a decent return but some people valued him way more than thsi
Plus a 4th and plus a 3rd rd drafted prospect.Sorry that's complete BS.
No team is trading down from 8th overall to the late 1st for a 2027 2nd and a 2026 3rd.
Of course not. That’s what the 2nd, 3rd, 3rd (prospect), and 4th are for.All 1sts are equivalent now? Cool. Hold off while we go call up the Blackhawks and offer to swap Corson Ceulemans for Connor Bedard.
With the exception of Boqvist, those guys are all 25+. Hunt got games at 21, and this year at 22 the wild fan consensus or close to it is that he's NHL ready or near NHL ready. Wild seems to think so as well, he's been up and down a number of times this year, just hasn't quite got in the lineup.Berni, Bean, Bjork, and Blankenburg. And arguably Boqvist also. All of whom "looked NHL ready" and even got quite a few NHL games but none of whom were retained... and, incidentally, none of whom have done much of anything since.
All of which are near-valueless and therefore not of any real meaning whatsoever in evaluating the trade.Of course not. That’s what the 2nd, 3rd, 3rd (prospect), and 4th are for.
They started their careers at ages 21-23. They were given away two or three years later. I have yet to see anything whatsoever that indicates anything different should be expected or even probable for Hunt. With the exception of Boqvist, those guys are all 25+.
Plus a 4th and plus a 3rd rd drafted prospect.
