Saw this on the other thread, props to the poster who posted it.

Canucks need a significant change, give their leading scorer who can play any forward position; 28 YO ppg-player, good FOs, blocks, fights, does it all. Cost controlled for this year and next at $5.25M, he is good value.

Dobson is 21, only 900K, rfa next summer, behind Pulock (and Mayfield?) I admittedly don't know a lot about Isles D depth, but seems like they could afford to move the former 12th OA. He is certainly the mold of the #1 RHD the Canucks so desperately need.

Canucks rebuild focusing on their young core, with a more balanced roster and more realistic growth goals (ie maybe playoffs, but better in a couple years) Isles add a huge piece for cup push.

I think even up makes sense, Isles could add a salary if they need to, not sure who.

I wish the Isles would do this, no chance they do.

Off topic, but I just want to note that everyone posting in this thread so far seems quite civil. That feels like it's increasingly lacking on main board threads. Well done.

On topic: I completely get that NYI wouldn't want to part with this player. :)

I get Dobson being a key piece for the Islanders.

I don't see this being the right fit for either team, and wish Islanders fans well with Dobson moving forward.

I'm not sure how Carolinas d depth looks like at this point but I'd look more at Brett Pesce for Miller. Close to the same age, big righty dman to play with quinn

i guess we need to address the absurd imbalances in the roster first, but I'd much prefer someone younger, to align with the core guys, all <25. Likely the best possible path is to wait until the TDL and really maximize the Miller return. Hopefully we'll have a new coach and GM by then.

I think building around Hog-EP-BB / Garland-Bo-Podz and QH, Demko is solid ...OEL and even Myers if we cant trade him ok to have as the vets. As long as they dont rush things, which of course has been the problem all along this 8-year non-rebuild rebuild

Hurricanes hated the idea of trading Pesce for Nylander. Zero chance they entertain Miller. Plus they have a balanced roster so I can’t see them even considering moving Pesce

A 28 yr old F at $5M+ isn’t going to get a 21 yr old very strong ELC player unless you are on HF boards.

a more logical trade is a 2 for2type of trade like

ELC D vet F for ELC forward and vet D that might fit currrnt needs.
One averaging a point a game, that can play first line Center, plays hard and is in a great contract. That usually gets you one heck of a prospect.

That's underpayment by the Nucks. I suspect they'd ask for Ep40.

Dobson is struggling a bit as a 21 year old Dman on a 13 game road trip might. But he is core to the Islanders future and pretty close to being untouchable.

As an impartial fan, I'd put Dobson's value similar to players like BB or EP than Miller.

Yeah. To me, Boeser seems like the closer shot at making a deal for someone like Dobson. Younger with more team control for Lou to leverage, and a guy who would be an heck of an intriguing fit beside a pure passer like Barzal.

And as a Canucks fan...i'd do Boeser for Dobson, straight up. But i also understand why the Isles might immediately shoot that down as well. I wouldn't trade a player like Dobson either. Period. :dunno: But there's definitely still quite a bit of risk for Dobson. The potential is there, but it's in a pretty unrealized state right now, where the Islanders are looking to make their own dent in the Stanley Cup immediately.

The Islanders are thin on the blue line and in need of young PMD. Why would they trade Dobson for a forward which is an area of strength?
