He was trash early but ever since the head injury he’s been a different player. Maybe Reaves running him over made him realize he needs to play with urgency and awareness every shift as opposed to mailing it in on 90% of plays.
Nurse was playing good hockey before the head hit. Like really good hockey for an 8 game stretch.

Kapanen looks great so far, it's quite simple. Skate fast, get puck, pass mcdavid puck, go to net, wait for pass from mcdavid, put puck in net.
Been saying this we lost 3 guys like that in the summer and was being chastised for it.

Big, fast, quick, able to recover pucks, decent shot, young, able to learn.

Thats all they need on the wings on this team.

I wonder what we do once Hyman and RV come back. If this team had balls, they'd replace Perry with Kapanen, but I just dont see it. I think he likely goes back on waivers and gets picked up, even though he deserves a spot over a few of the geriatrics on this team.

Insane forward depth, just ridiculous lol.
With the way Podz and Kapanen are playing and with the playoffs 3rd line playing well again, I don't know where all the bodies are going to fit but....good problem to have
Something like this?

Skinner-McDavid-Kap
Kane-Drai-Podz
Hyman-RNH-Arvy
Janmark-Henrique-Brown
Perry

Hopefully Caggiula and Ryan waived. Ryan isn't 13th fwd level at this point

Kane McDavid Kap
Pod Drai Arvidsson
Skinner Nuge Hyman
Janmark Rico Brown
I agree I’m just concerned given his age and poor performance last playoffs. Glad to have some options if guys aren’t going.
i see that as my fully healthy lineup but does the lineup get fully healthy? I don’t see how he can dress when everyone is going because guys like Brown and Janmark are too good for the PK. We’ll see what happens with Kapanen though. Looks good now but there’s a reason he’s bounced around and was waived.

They’ve done a great job of managing the hole in the 4 spot with a mix of Kulak/Emberson/Stetcher but I think long term it’s not wise to lean on Kulak so heavily on his off side. As well they need to keep testing Emberson, he definitely passed the assignment tonight.
Also he needs 50 or 60 games played for us to keep his rights.

We're all loving this. Worst board around. They've shit talked the Oilers so much, and Edmonton in general. Always like to see some adversity there.

Things are going to go to shit with the Rantanen contract. They're f***ed either way. Lose the player or pay WAY too much for him.
They've trolled us hard since the 2022 playoffs. Bunch of sore winners.

That was game 666 for McDavid as an Oiler.
He’s been a beast his entire career here.

maybe its time for a blog on Oilers lineup in March?
Im liking what Podkolzin and Kapanen have been bringing. Drai is a big supporter of Podkolzin. Kapanen has wheels. Skinner has been actually playing better the last few games

On another note, I'm shaking my head at the thread on the mains comparing MacKinnon to McDavid. MacKinnon is a good player, but he's much closer to Draisaitl than McDavid. Connor is pretty clearly on a tier of his own.

And Perry imo. I don't get why this guy is so revered. He's the laziest player on the ice, always on the wrong side of the puck, always takes bad penalties (especially in playoffs). It would be a shame if we had to let kapanen go in order to keep ryan/perry and our cap accrual

I know you missed Kane, but it’s just case in point that we’re crazy deep at forward. I like what you did moving Nuge to 3C, I think those lines would be worth trying, but with Kane incorporated, I’d try something like this (while trying to keep close to your original lineup:

Hyman-McD-Kapanen
Podkolzin-Drai-Arvi
Kane-Nuge-Skinner/Perry
Janmark-Rico-Brown

If we're fully healthy and run Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Nuge and Rico down the middle then I think we'd have one of the deepest teams in the league. I'd still like to add a right shot center, partner for Nurse and 1B goalie at the deadline if possible.

Oilers looking more and more like...the Oilers, the cup contending Oilers. Actually, they've played at a pretty high level all season but now they're scoring more normally, getting a few more saves and Special Teams have stabilized. 5 on 5 has been good all season tbh.
Not really.
There were way too many holes in their game early on. Sloppy puck management and multiple missed assignments (on the same play) defensively.

The game last night was much tighter. Much more repsonisble. That looked a lot more like the team we watched in the playoffs.
Even though there was still too much over passing...the last 50 minutes of this game was the best hockey they have played so far IMO.
