Mikkola Hit on Girgensons. Given 5 mins and game misconduct

That sort of hit, if anything serious would have happened to Girgensons he's not just looking at a suspension.

Yeah I believe that was Kadri's 5th suspension

I think they'll go with 1, they'll probably go off precedent and the no suspension history for Mikkola.

Be the Panthers.
Know that your players won't be punished more severely because they don't have suspension history.
Know they won't get suspension history because they're beloved by the league and the guardian angel of the Bruins for many years is part of the executive group in Sunrise now.
Rinse and repeat the last 2 points into an infinite loop.
Profit by winning the cup!

40% percent force of a push with 70% of it going downward rather against the boards. Not too smart but 5 and a game is plenty enough.
And 100% unneccessary. Like what the f*** was Girgensons going to do from there? If they league ever wants to be serious about player safety, these kinds of hits they should look to eliminate.

Unnecessary? Absolutely. Mikkola had to do something though. You can't have people make plays freely just because they're on their knees. It's playoffs.

He chose to do that. As I said not very smart but 5 and a toss is enough.

Yeah, if the player is already down on the ice, there is no reason for such a hit except trying to injure.

Ok this one is pretty bad.

No need to do that while he's on his knees. He could have boxed him out without thumping him so hard.

2-3 games

So dangerous that it absolutely must be games cost for this.
Luckily nothing bad happened. Could be a wheelchair or worse.

In a situation like that you definitely do not go for the puck first. You make sure he's not making a play. Hockey 101.
No, you sure as shit don't. The puck was completely out of Girgensons reach. There was no possible way for Girgensons to make any sort of play here. There was zero reason for Mikkola to go for a hit here, it served no purpose at all, especially since the opponent was not in a postion to be hit, which is the first step you have to take into consideration before making a hit in the first place.

If Mikkola was oh so interested in keeping Girgensons from making a play (again, not that there was any possibility he could have) there were different means to achieve that. Means which didn't come with the risk of taking a penalty. This was an utterly stupid play which could have cost his own team dearly. He can consider himself to be very lucky Tampa didn't put the game away during the powerplay.
