Mikkola Hit on Girgensons. Given 5 mins and game misconduct (fined $5000)

I support Florida these playoffs and I support Mikkola ( I know his mom well) but I cant believe Mikkola wasn’t suspended from this play. Very stupid and dangerous hit that could have caused a serious injury. This league is so incosistent with suspensions
Well.. actually thats not true, they are very consistent. It just does not follow common sense as suspensions are based on result of action instead severity of act.

Hilarious that the Hagel hit which was at best a 2 minute interference, somewhat dirty hit, got a suspension. When this is one of the most blatant attempts at taking out a vulnerable player, straight up crushing his head against the boards, and only gets a fine??????
By common sense, this should have been suspension, but as said above.. it did not lead to any kind of injury

The Hagel hit on Barkov didn't result in an injury either. Barkov just sold the hit well and Florida did their good old "we wont commit to whether he'll play game 3 or miss the series" schtick to the media like they also did on the Draisaitl borderline dirty hit.

Peros ignores the stars dirty plays and gives out fines and suspensions to the Hagel Mikkola level players.
What is this, the NBA?

It did led to injury, Barkov was out rest of the game. whoever thinks in game two with one goal lead they sit Barkov out for "selling the idea" is bat shit crazy

And yes concussion protocol is injury as it requires player to leave game

Barkov got hit hard and I’m sure it knocked the wind out of him. The hit didn’t result in a concussion which is supported by Hagel not hitting him in the head (although there could have been a whiplash effect but clearly not what would result in head injury since he didn’t miss any time other than what was mandated).

Hagel on the other hand did get hit in the head, twice, and is suffering from a concussion for him to already be ruled out, and if the Lightning do manage to get their act together and pull off a stunning comeback, it’s quite possible Hagel doesn’t play again this postseason or at least Tampa would have to go far. Those types of injuries linger usually.

so Barkov was injured and Panthers did not reveal what it was, yeah I can see thats exactly what happened, its part of the physical sports not to reveal anything its called game inside game

He didn’t have a head injury because he would have been out Game 3. Which is what I said. Made no mention of anything else. Circelli had 2 separated shoulders couple playoffs ago and playing through, so yes, there are injuries teams keep under wraps, but not head injuries.

I think Barkov came out for concussion protocol. He did not expect the hit so he was shaken up by it probably did get some whiplash or something. And yeah who knows maybe he is nursing something. But I think from the Hagel hit it was mostly following protocol.

I do agree that both the Mikkola and Ekblad stuff last night are perhaps suspension worthy, most definitely Ekblad’s as it was intentionally head hunting.

But that’s why we pay the refs and the league so we can continue being their favorite team.

"Hit to the chest" lol. He crushed Barkov 's head as well as got him in the chest. It was total blindside interference hit. He nailed Barkov pretty good in the head. Thank God Barkov is a moose.
Going to post garbage hyperbole then better back it up with a video clip, still image, or some proof Barkov was nailed in the head. Pretty surprising he passed concussion protocol too if that had been the case - what is his head made of exactly to show no adverse effects of such a head blow?

He hit Barkov shoulder to chest and his head rocked back and hit the ice. Same thing as Guentzel head getting.rocked back into ice. All of them should have been suspended an additional game o no suspensions the dpis is all over the place. No consistency and refuse to hold repeat offenders accountable like Tkachuk.

This is actually absurd this was just as predatory as the ekblad hit.

I wouldn't call it predatory. That's because to me, "predatory" in the context of hockey implies some kind of intent by the player performing whatever the action in question is. I don't believe Mikkola had any intent for things to end up end up as poorly as they did, since as I've been saying, I don't consider him a dirty player. He judged the situation poorly and did something stupid based on him having poorly judged the situation with a snap decision. "Reckless" is a more appropriate word to describe his situation.

That’s fine - why doesn’t he get a suspension? Hagel isn’t considered a dirty player, and has no history of reckless hits - why was he assessed one?

:dunno:

The only explanation I have to offer for that one is "because George Parros." Sometimes I'd like to know what Parros is thinking, but that implies that he's capable of thinking.
