This just in...a player playing on his 3rd team in what, 2 months(?) is not having a career year.
Yes think of how many wins they would’ve secured for their teamHypothetically speaking, if a player scores 1,000 empty net points in his career, would that be hall of fame worthy?
So with a secondary assist on a empty net goal against Minnesota Mikko Rantanen was able to break Nikita Kucherov's single season empty net points record by collecting his 15th empty net point of the season: NHL Stats
Rantanen has just 75 points this season so scoring 15 empty net points is really ridiculous. When Kucherov put up 14 empty net points he had a very respectable 144 points and won the Art Ross. Rantanen on the other hand has been spiraling out of control after being traded from Colorado and has just 11 points in 21 games after the trade. Take MacKinnon and Makar away and Rantanen is just a borderline top 6 player on pace for 15+27=42 points over a full 82 game regular season. If things continue like this Rantanen can forget about making the Hall of fame.
Yeah, Rantanen had one of the luckiest big game performance of all time and the empty netter was a textbook example of Rantanen's elite mooching ability! I'll bet that @Murzu who's childhood friends with Mikko and the President of the Mikko Rantanen fan club is really proud of him right now!all that practice on empty nets throughout the season paid off handsomely tonight
