Mike Weaver Appreciation Thread

Weaver's the only guy who looks in sync with Bouillon on a pairing. They actually make a good third pairing.

Sign him quick. Good D who got buried playing tough minutes on a bad team. He looks really good with less responsibility on a better team.

What a beauty deal by MB. We all thought this guy was going to be awful. The only downside( if it's really a problem) is that he's almost 36yrs. Sign him 2yrs/1.5m per and we have a really good deal.

Weaver plays like Bouillon did in better days. I see Weaver, and I see a Bouillon from before the Dandouillon era. You know, the Bouillon that knocked Tucker down with 1 punch? The one that knocked everyone on their ass, coaches and fans included, on his improbable but motivational way to a permanent spot in the NHL?

That one.

I know it's been a long time, but there's a reason why Bouillon stayed in the NHL so long, he was a pretty darn solid guy back then. That's Weaver. Really high compete level, wins corner battle after corner battle. Strong 1st pass. Weaver's better offensively, which is a massive plus. Playing on a good, playoff bound team, he really seems to bloom. Florida had a gem back there.

I think Therrien might find a new love interrest if Bouillon retires and Weaver remains.

I know he's a bit old, but I think he's got more hockey to give than Bouillon.

If this guy was 5 years younger I would have given him a really long contract. He is so stable it's scary.

He's been a great acquisition at the trade deadline. Had little idea what we were getting. Thought it was a depth move in case an injury happened. He's been really good and exceed most of our expectations. I'd like for us to re-sign Weaver.

I'd take him over Bouillon and Murray in a heartbeat.

I'm a beweaver.

I love his puck retrieval. He doesn't F around getting into physical battles uselessly.
He makes a bee line for the puck and deals with everthing else once he has it.
PK you watchin' Dude...

I was already pleased with the fact that he's +14 since joining the Habs, but then I realized he has 7 points in those 14 games, which is quite frankly amazing, considering his role.

Not all of us, I was pretty happy with the deal from the get go ;)

That's because they see eye to eye on just about everything.

Most of his points and +s have come recently, i.e. since he has been in Gorges' role - i.e. ~20 min/night second pairing/PK defenseman (like he was beside Kulikov in Florida). Getting implicated in so many scoring plays (some key ones, too) is kind of a bonus compared to Gorges, but his defensive presence (as many complaints as there have been about Gorges) definitely has not (the PK hasn't really suffered, though). Again, the ends can justify the means to a certain extent if you can feel the sense of team develop through the process. Team has been getting results the way everyone has been contributing, but the defense probably hasn't been as tight as will be required come playoff time. Part of that is relying on Weaver instead of Gorges, as opposed to in support of Gorges.

He has been more than just a passenger through some of these recent character/team-building wins, though, so credit and appreciation on that level where it's due, for sure.

He holds the blue line extremely well. Rarely gives up the zone. He creates a lot of turnovers and odd man rushes in the process.

He's +11 and 7 pts in 14gp, I knew he has been useful to the Habs since Gorges went down, but wow, didnt realise his stats were that good until I checked this morning lol.

Didnt understand the move at all, but turns out to be a great trade by Bergy in the end...

If there is a veteran the Habs would want to bring back between him, Murray or Bouillon I hope it's him. Great team guy and plays some ggo minutes. Far from done. Solid pick up

Yeah, a d-corps next year of:

Subban - Gorges
Markov - Emelin
Beaulieu/Tinordi/Pateryn - Weaver

Looks good to me!

I don't think anyone thought he'd be awful, but nobody thought he'd be of much use.

He's easily been better than Bouillon and Murray, and the 7 points in 14 games, as well as +11 is amazing as well, even if many of those points are 2nd assists, this was supposed to be a guy who was an offensive black hole.

Nobody believed Panthers fans who told us they'd miss him, and we'd love him. Boy were we wrong.

We were all down on Weaver at the start because we thought it was gonna be Drewiske 2.0. Never really heard of the guy until we got him and we got him for a 5th. The fact is, this guy can play. He's seamlessly filled in Gorges role, which is what I believe he was brought in to do in the first place, and more.

MB didn't mess around this TDL. Vanek, Weaver, and Weise have all fit in well here at some capacity. Good work Boss.
