Mike Sullivan is the worst Head Coach in the league now and the Penguins don’t care.

Tbh thought he was going to be cooked back during the Isles series a few years ago.

Every player that comes in ends up shitting the bed. Every player that goes out ends up scoring hat tricks.

-Erik Karlsson puts up a Norris Trophy winning campaign the year prior to Sullivan. And now it looks like he’s on his retirement tour.

-Alex Nylander scores a hat trick because he’s no longer under the Sullivan spell.

-Mikael Granlund leads the Sharks in points. In Pittsburgh it looked like he didn’t know what a hockey puck was.

-Reilly Smith wishes he was back in Vegas with an actual game plan.

And the worst part of it all, the Penguins have won all 3 out of their 4 Cup runs while firing a Head Coach mid season.

Maybe Dubas will start to catch on sooner than later since he’s the one who traded away Nylander and brought in the other two. Hopefully.

What are some other reasons he sucks as these are just off the top of my head.

It’s a Sad Day for Hockey.
Wrote same thing in December, January.February.
Last season .....seasons before.
With Sullivans melting pot system it matters not who the GMs give him to coach.

+10 goal differential with a terrible power play.

They’re not as old and washed up as everyone thinks.

They’re a decent power play away from being right in the thick of things.
they can't protect leads.
play the same way regardless of score or clock.
no matter which players leave and which players come in the team plays the exact same way.
Sullivan is a useless passenger holding the job hostage.

The last cup was seven years ago. Most coaches aren't able to sustain such a long tenure. Would you say that Sutter was unjustly fired from the Kings? Berube from the Blues?

Sullivan is past his expiry date, just like they were.
I am not saying nothing about replacing a voice in that room but people saying he is a bad coach do not know shit about hockey they just think they do.

Every coach has a shelf life. But until this trade deadline with Guentzal, the Penguins were behaving like Crosby and Sullivan are like Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick or something. They haven't had THAT level of success (to be fair though, almost no team has other than the Chicago Bulls with Jordan).

Crosby is a living legend and everything, but the writing has been on the wall for a few years now this team at least needs a new coaching direction. And they should also reconsider before dedicating a whole bunch of cap to resigning Crosby if he doesn't want to retire.

Pittsburgh has been spoiled with some of the best players and team success over the last 30 or so years when you consider the transition between Mario and Jagr to Sid and Geno.

Part of me loves to watch them suffer. But yea, it's inexcusable to keep Sullivan around. Just... why?

$17 million owed

OOOOffffff
That’s nothing! As a Detroit fan, the 10-52 pistons are in the 1st year of a 6 year FULLY GUARANTEED $78.5M contract. Penguins should count their blessings!

I’d like to see Vellucci given a shot - but would probably only happen in an interim role if he’s fired mid-season. He had success winning cups in juniors and AHL. Although he might be a better fit for a younger NHL team, but at least give him a chance.

No we just suck. Theres a difference.
Yeah, I know the pens are in a tough situation. Let's see if they head south now since there are no goals left on the season.
Would love to see Crosby have another ppg season anyway!

This roster would be powerhouse in 2014... Seriously, Sullivan may partially at fault, but did really anybody had any expectations with that retirement home on ice?

Crosby at 36 is better than 95 percent of thecleagues 26 year Olds.
Karlsson won a Norris jusy last season.
Letang is playing great and does not play like his age at all.
Malkin was fantastic last season. ( slowing this season with lousey wingers)
The old guys arent the ones who dragged the team to the cellar. ( with the exception of Carter who shouldn't even be in the line up, yet Sullivan has him on both powerplay and penalty kill) lol
Its the the younger guys and coaching staff that are playing like ass.

The issue is that they keep on doubling down on a recipe that hasn’t worked in 6-7 years now.

The Sullivan Pens were near the top of the league when the core players were much younger and they had a competitive edge with the speed they could deploy throughout the lineup to generate offense. He could even make stone hands Carl Hagelin turn into a dangerous offensive player.

Now that the roster is old and slow, they’re left with the rest, and they don’t have many other strengths. They have good puck skills, but they are neither fast nor aggressive as a team.

Both the roster and the coaching staff need a change if they want to succeed again in the short term. Looks like they finally decided to start selling and retooling, but Dubas can’t be trusted when he chose to double down by bringing EK65 into the mix.

He has a 3 year extension starting next season.

It would be pretty bold to fire someone before their extension even kicks in, especially given it’s one of the highest AAV extensions in the league.

Ek65 is exactly the guy you need to increase your offensive tempo for 25+ minutes a night BUT YOUR PLAYERS AND COACHING NEEDS TO BUY IN. He has to be the playmaker, everyone else needs to stop thinking of trying to make a play.

It’s a Sad Day for Hockey.

A sad day for hockey?

Its the Pittsburgh penguins, not the Toronto maple leafs, the actual center of the hockey universe

No one is sitting here logging in thinking about the penguins, they’re thinking about their team and the maple leafs

It is a sad day for penguins fans though, Dubas made an awful move bringing in EK, what a stupid stupid thing to do

I said the day they landed him, that he’d end up being neutered if not totally wasted, just like how Iginla was under Bylsma.

Frankly this new ownership group of jackasses and their Golden Goose-egg of a coach have already done enough to show they doesn’t deserve anymore star players for the next 20+ years.

lol careful what you wish for!

Penguins fans are absolutely spoiled rotten. They would meltdown like you couldn’t believe if they ever have to go through a 20 year rebuild

They think generational talent grows on trees, they probably think they’re entitled to having two of them on the team at all times.

They are probably in disbelief that Bedard isn’t living in Crosby’s basement right now, learning how to be a pro
