Seriously, is there really no young blood we can infuse into this line-up? I have a hard time believing some of those kids could be worse than Rupp.

Recognizing that he really adds nothing is not really making him a whipping boy. 'Whipping Boy' signifies unrelenting, unfair criticism.

This.

Hagelin and Stepan have upside and are starting to play better, yet still deal with ridiculous criticism. Those are whipping boys.

Rupp is not good. I really wish we replace him with somebody more useful and make him the 13th forward. It's been 8 games and his knee is healthy, and he hasn't done anything except lose a fight.

Rupp was a coveted player in the summer of 2011 which is how he ended up with a 3 year contract. His salary is $1.2M next season. $1.7M and $1.6M in the first 3 years. $925,000 is the AHL threshold for next season. $900,000 this season. Minimum salaries increases to $550,000. Add $375,000. Sather needs to find one of the teams which attempted to sign Rupp two summers ago. Brian Burke liked Rupp but he wouldn't give him the third year. Burke is out of there now. Take back a cap hit less than $900,000-$925,000 to dump in the AHL if necessary.

I'd be okay if he was traded or used as a 13th forward. We definitely have young blood in the farm that's better we have to. Or else we are in some sort of trouble.

Was a supporter of the signing and always thought he'd be a good fit, even after last year I thought he was held back by injuries and that he'd show his true performance level this year. Sadly, I think that's what he is doing. i'm fine with him playing limited fourth line minutes, but we can't have him seeing third line toi.

The Rangers need players who can pressure the other teams defense into mistakes. Rupp, when he was younger was very effective at getting in on the forecheck and wreaking havoc. I have been a vehement defender of Mike for a while on these forums because he brings so much more than just on-ice presence but the Rangers really need to bring in someone who can forecheck effectively because Bickel and Rupp are not doing it.

I don't see any reason he should be getting ice time over Haley or Mashinter.

My sentiments exactly.

I remember when Slats was asked why he got rid of John Maclean. He said "Johns giddy up just doesn't giddy up anymore". Same issue here.

I thought the knee injury was the issue. Its obvious now that it isn't. If he can't get in on the forecheck and thump opposing teams D-men, then he is utterly useless on the 4th line. And the thought of him on the third line is just embarrassingly absurd.

I love toughness and tough players but Mike Rupp is done.

Mike Rupp may not be flashy but he is sound defensively and knows his role. He doesn't take dumb penalties either. I would like to see Haley or Mashinter over Bickel but I doubt we see that anytime soon with Kreider coming back.

I was an advocate of signing Rupp and have defended him quite a bit around here. However, it's pretty clear that he's not getting it done and we need to move on from him.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Jack Skille at the deadline if Florida don't make the playoffs. I see him as a very nice fit in our bottom six.

+ Good skating, power, forecheck, a decent slapper, hockey sense, upcoming RFA, good locker room guy.
- Mitchell like dangle tendencies, not the most eager backchecker, unimpressive offensive production, can't fight.

He does a lot of what Rupp doesn't, what is missing from the bottom six and still has potential to develop.

Don't know if he'd be available and for what price, but its not like he's an integral part of FLA.

i wouldnt mind any one of Skille, J.Morin from (Hawks), K.Beach, M.Foligno etc big guy with size that uses it and can skate for the 3rd and 4th line

agreed, I stick up for the guy but it's not looking like he will help. They could use a younger enegy guy on the 4th line. Asham can fight and they signed Bickel to be more muscle, he drives me nuts too but hes cheap

If they can move Rupp in a deal this yr I think they should do it. If not they could use the buyout on him next yr but I think i'd rather hold onto that for the yr after ideally.

Someone suggested Bissonette for Rupp, that would be fine cause atleast Bissonette is cheap and he can be a scratch most nights anyway.

much rather get someone who has a bit more skill

Rupp Eminger and 3rd (Fla) to Kings for Anthony Stewart and either Kyle Clifford or Jordan Nolan

That package doesn't get you Clifford alone.

i know. i was throwing out examples of the type of players the NYR should go after.. Clifford is an underrated player as a future energy pest..

how about Beleskey from the Ducks???

he would be a good replacement for Rupp

I would love to see Haley at least get a shot here in Bickel's spot. The guy scored 15 goals last year for the Soundtigers. He might be a little on the small side, but he has speed, and the dude is a spark plug. Could be Avery-esque at the Garden.

The question is why not?

If he can handle Bickel, he should be replacing him in the lineup. At least for a look...

Not noticeable in Hartford so far this season. There have also been rumors he is not happy with the situation down there and regrets signing with the Rangers. If he has voiced those concerns, he will not see any time in NY.

With Kreider practically back there is no point in bringing someone up for a game or 2 at this point. Bickel should be sat, but I doubt he will be.

He doesn't look like the guy that scored a hatty against us a few years back.. God that was a rought night..

he looks old past his prime, or maybe he is still hurt and hiding it from the NYR :help: he just hasnt looked like he did before he was on NYR.. he was good for the Devils :shakehead

I'm shocked by this thread.

Rupp is a great 4th liner, who happens to be playing on the 3rd line due to Cally and Kreider being out tempporarily
