For me, the guy was the driving force behind the 2012 Cup run. He was absolutely instrumental during the playoffs that season, and that is why DL got him.

I know his play faded during the following couple of seasons, but he was very instrumental in the locker room. Carter absolutely loves the guy, I sure hope this doesn't affect his play going forward (he did man up and play well when Richards was sent down last season, but you could tell it affected him).

Good luck Mike, and I'm sure we'll see you in some uniform come October 8.

****ty ending for him here, definitely time to move on, but he gave us a lot of good memories in his short time here. All the best wherever he ends up. Enjoy the fiance, the lake, the cash, and the rings, and keep playing if you can.

Key guy in 3 Cup runs. Worth every penny of that trade and contract. Best of luck to him in the future.

Definitely agree with this, despite what some here are saying.

Two Cups, guys. Without him, I don't think we win either one, quite frankly.

One of my favorite players, I wish him the best wherever he ends up. Miss yeah Richie.

It was short, but I've been to 2 parades and rallies in part thanks to Mike Richards. Kings pulled off some historic level **** when he was in the lineup and for that, I'll never forget. Our guys couldn't get out of the first round until Mike Richards and Jeff Carter showed up. Mike set the tone from the first series in 2012 and our boys followed that lead from there. There will be a legends night for him someday in Staples. 100% guaranteed.

Thankful the contributions he brought to the Kings.

Feel bad that it became what it did for him. It's an unfitting end.

Watching the tapes of the last two runs again recently made me realize how many big plays he was in on for LA. I still think the concussion (was him right?) in the 13 playoffs was a huge blow to that run.

Best of luck Rick.

Mike's brought it for years for every team he's been on, the amount of hardware he has is ridiculous. So glad he helped bring it to LA.

Here's to his future and health.

For me 38 years before MR with some of those w/ the great one and alot with really good to great players like dionne etc and 0 cups and one WCF,and 4 years with MR 3 WCF and TWO FREAKING CUPS couldn't be more greatful THANKS MIKE

Painful way for one of the most decorated players ever to go out. One of my favorite players. Very grateful for all the contributions he gave to this team - on and off the ice. Time to move on though.

Loved this guy one of my favorite Kings. Soooo dang sad what has happened to him. I'm still dumbfounded at how his career has just went down the toilet. Almost got a Richards Jersey too. Best of luck.

It's a shame it came to this, we wouldn't have won in 2012 without him though, the trade was ultimately worth it, but this is about as bad as it gets for him. Hopefully some team takes a chance on him, or gets some low contract to go back and play for Philly etc... Every time he looked great he ended up taking a big hit or getting a concussion and then he'd turn invisible again. Was pulling for him to come back last season, knew Lombardi wouldn't buy him out last year, hindsight was 20/20, but I like what Dean did, he learned his lesson, but I guarantee you that what happened with Richards was noticed by the players and potential agents that choose to play in LA. If you sacrifice and win here, you will be looked after and the club will show you an extraordinary amount of loyalty.

I don't think I've posted here in the Kings section before, but here me out. I'm going to be honest, he brought me here. He made me a Kings fan. I always loved Richards but I just couldn't cheer for Philly. He was traded to LA, they seemed like an alright team, so I went with it. And here we are.

Seeing the 2 cups, the 3 great playoff runs, it was really special. Being from Winnipeg I was able to make the trip to Kenora for his 2012 cup day. It was all just a great experience. I can't say enough about that 2012 team, but Richards really was one of the most important parts. Nobody should forget that. Lets also remember that without Richards, Jeff Carter likely isn't in the black and silver.

Like I said, Richards brought me here. He may be gone but I plan to remain a Kings fan. Thank you Richie.

This is one of my favorite Mike Richards moments. Thank you. The others are the Mike Richards press conference quote during the Stanley Cup 2014 run where he talks about the closeness of the team, and his interview on the ice after they won the 2014 Cup when he talked about Dean Lombardi. This guy cared deeply.

Gonna miss you, Rick. Thank you for being a King and helping our Kings become Stanley Cup Champions. Thank you for bringing out that winning culture. Thanks for the memories.

It's tragic the way he's going out, but that was the trade that made the Kings legit and it paid off twice. Can't expect better.
