Player Discussion Mike Matheson

?? You'll have to refresh my memory what was said that was so overly emotionally ripping apart in the Roy thread 2 seconds ago.

It has been a while now and you still have not replied so I looked around and this is all that I had posted about Roy that day following what you posted.

13th forward would be a waste. Dont keep players with potential on the sidelines, either play or trade them. Its better for both parties.

Please trade him then.

In your state of mind, does that actually demonstrate that that is some overly emotional ripping apart on Roy? Are you related to Spock or Shrek?

While Monahan was the best asset move, the Matheson addition has been Hughes' most impactful roster addition.

That trade, which ended up as Matheson & Konyuskov for Petry & Poehling, is already highway robbery, let alone if Kony translates his KHL success to the NHL.

Can you imagine if we had Petry instead of Matheson in our top 4 the past two seasons lol...

I wish we had Petry from his earlier Habs seasons instead of Matheson.

I like Matheson a lot but think he may need a bit of a rest. His last 20 games have been some of the worst, especially his play on the 2nd PP (cannot get a shot through from the point and is turning the puck over a lot) and his outlet passes in his own end. I think Guhle is a simple solution for the 2nd PP. His play in his own end needs to include flipping the puck to centre when in trouble. He needs to simplify his game and I am sure Washington will be targeting him. I still like the player. He may just need a bit of a break and a little less ice time to re-energize.

Over the last two seasons, no player in the NHL has played more minutes in the regular season than Matheson. He's obviously being overworked, but his job is to insulate the young D, which he has done.

I think PP minutes are a point of pride for him though and given what he's been asked to do, I understand why he's in that role. I'm wondering if giving Guhle more PK time might help too, or see what Struble can do there.
