Player Discussion Mike Matheson

It's funny around here,Mike makes a gaff and you don't stop hearing about it, when Hutson makes gaffs, crickets.lol
Because Hutson makes gaffs trying plays, he makes mistakes because he tries risky plays. Matheson just makes stupid mistakes on plays with zero upside. Take the 2nd goal from yesterday, why does he swat at the puck as if he was trying to kill a fly? there is zero upside to this attempt. Just use your hand or wait until the puck drops...

Don’t you worry , we’re in the shiny new toy phase, once he’s getting paid $8M+ usual suspects will be jumping all over him unless he’s breaking Bobby Orr records…lets not even address potential sophomore slump

Is it cherry picking season already?

Matheson just needs to apply his PK posture to his 5 on 5 play.

Indeed.

He seems to hurt himself by trying to do too much at ES... He's got the skating & stickhandling to be an elite dman, but his risk/reward instincts are off and that drives a lot of those gaffes.

Reminds me of a young QB that holds on to the ball too long or forces bad throws instead of just checking down or getting rid of the ball.

Problem is that he's a vet and still hasn't figured out when to take what the opponent gives you, and that sometimes the safe play is exactly the best way to help the team.

In the PK, he seems to get it and with his skill set is very effective as a result
