650k is economical, and with guys like Allen and McIlrath hopefully getting close, this shouldn't be a guy who plays more than a dozen games this season.
As a Leafs fan, Kostka got his first NHL action here as a rookie, so I might as well give you guys a rundown. He's a solid #7. Nothing more, nothing less. Just a depth guy. He's a meh player talent-wise defensively and offensively, just mediocre all around. He's a really good shot blocker and plays with a ton of heart, as well as being a serviceable PKer. He also bears an uncanny resemblance to Thor, so if you thought Thor memes were annoying enough...
If I were you guys, I'd watch out for AV falling in love with him. This guy seems to be a coach's pet. Every coach he's ever played under seems to have loved him a ton. Here in Toronto, Carlyle had a huge hard-on for him and basically just gave him top pairing minutes last year with Phaneuf to begin the season, so that may be partially why I can be hard on Kostka at times. He's a solid heart and soul guy, though. Make no mistake.
Great signing for the price, player and role. Can skate, had a anomaly of an offensive outburst early on his NHL debut. Can skated and fill minutes when called upon.
Mikos, the last paragraph should be noted. I was thinking the same thing. He is one of the better D/F depth players. If you wanna go with a 21 man roster for a few weeks he is a good asset as insurance for the entire lineup.
