The book is out by now on Mike Hoffman: slow skater, doesn't know how to back check, and make sometimes the bad decision with the puck. What he is also is a reliable scorer; he puts 30+ points seasons and he's solid on the PP.

Next year will be the final year of his contract. If the Habs retain half of his salary, could a team be interested in him for a playoff run?

A lot can happen in a year. Way to soon to gauge value on something like that, especially for someone like Mike Hoffman.

I really don't see how he can be valuable to a contender. He's like the Marc-André Bergeron of wingers, but less productive. He's a one trick pony (his shot), but everything else about his game is a liability. Slow, small, soft as butter, turnover machine, not a character guy, not known for leadership, cannot play defense, etc. He's now a PP specialist who's not super good at it.

Is his girlfriend /fiancé/wife that was speaking for him in the media when he got ran out of Ottawa during that Erik K…. Locker room / players wife’s Fiasco still in the picture?

I remember he got labeled with a bad locker room guy label…… maybe bit unfairly / maybe not!

I don’t see much value at the deadline next year. Not much to see here!

Teams don’t want to bring in any distractions at the deadline ….. they want to add good veteran solid playoff performers.

What are the chances Montreal buys out his last year of his contract this summer.

I would rather buy Hoffman out or send to minors. Give his roster spot to prospect like ROH or Farrell. Whichever makes makes most sense for team. Sick of seeing him play for Habs

A buyout doesn’t make sense here. It’s either 1 year at 4.5M or if you go the buyout route it’s 2 years at 1.6M

We would save space this year but add some next year. We have tons of cap space as is for next year, might as well just let the contract run out instead of using cap space in a year where we may need it more.

At 50% retained, I believe there would be a market for him. Kind of like Dadonov, but I think Hoffman would have slightly more value at 50% than Dadonov.

For a playoff team who needs a bit of PP help on the second wave, Hoffman can be a good add for pretty cheap.

He had two good years in Florida and a year in St Louis after that situation with his and Karlsson's SO's. That's water under the bridge.

We won't be that strapped for cap next year. Just let him play. If he plays ok, find a trade at 50% to get something. If it's to make room, put him on waivers, maybe someone grabs him

It might be better for montreal…..

no one else will take him 7nless you add a sweetener.

please look at cap space teams will have after signing RFAs in the summer.

there will probably be only 6 teams that will have 5M+ in space

a more likely scenario…

a team trades a late 2nd for him and FLA 1st…..then buys him out.

You're reading the wrong book if you think Mike Hoffman is slow. Aren't you a Canadiens fan? You watch him all the time, how did you get the idea he was a slow skater?

Don't think it was unfairly tbh. I wouldn't side with my girlfriend/fiancé/wife if she mocked another womans stillborn...

4th round pick sounds fair.

Hoffman is one-dimensional (or 2). He has a good shot and he is a fast skater. Doesn't do anything else.

Like someone said, he could help a playoff team that has a terrible power play.

Extremely unrealistic.
Habs have a lot of cap space next year, they are not trading a 15ov in a great draft to get rid of 4.5M. It's the other way around. We'd gladly take on cap for picks, see Monahan.

Hoffman may be the Hab I have disliked the most in 3 decades of watching the team and that's saying a lot because we have seen a lot of bad NHL players don the jersey.

My guess is we'll trade him this summer for another team's problem player who is also on a big contract with 1 year left (Mantha? Bailey? Those are 2 names that come to mind). To get Mike Hoffman away from our youth is the goal. Taking away 2024-25 cap space via a buyout is a big no for me.

Maybe a third if he has a solid season, otherwise a 4th or so. Better discussion next January but I guess you Habs fans are bored having a non-playoff team.

Mid round pick if he stays at current production. If he explodes a second round pick. Worst comes to worst maybe half retention to a playoff team for a Gurianov type of player. Change of scenery.
