I voted Green as I think his two year peak was a little better, though they’re fairly similar players. Green also never had the benefit of a partner like Ekholm, though he also never had a playoffs like Bouchard did last year.

Guy scored 30 and even though he wasn’t terrific defensively, he was a hell of a lot better than Bouchard in that aspect.

Green pretty easy.

There's a decent gap offensively as well.

Mike Green in 2008-09 was 10th in PPG with 68 games played then finished 21st in scoring the next year among all skaters. He led all defenseman in scoring both years

Bouchard last year finished 25th in scoring, this year he is 65th in scoring. Was 4th in scoring among defenseman last year and this year.

Green was as immensely talented as he was boneheaded. He had a nasty shot as well as a nasty habit of pinching at the dumbest possible moments only to have the puck get behind him and give up a needless breakaway to blow a lead.

He was amazing at head fakes, was a great skater for a time, and he once tried to put a guy in an arm bar in the middle of a scrum - which is one of the dopiest things I’ve ever seen (and that includes Semin playing the bongos).

If Bouchard improved on last season then maybe there's an argument here. But there isn't one. Bouchard has a much easier set up being paired with Ekholm and getting tons of minutes with 2 of the best forwards of the generation, yet he isn't on the same level of production.

Green, not even close. Maybe if Evan takes a step next year there's something to say.

How about playoff scoring? Yah cool Mike Green scored 30 goals in the regular season and followed that up with ONE in the postseason.... has 37 career playoff points in 76 games. Bouch almost put up that many in one campaign. Caps never got anywhere until he was gone.

If you're asking single season or peak then yes, Green's one season is the best. Otherwise we are comparing a retired player to one just entering their prime?

I'm a biased oiler fan - Bouch is often braindead, I don't deny that - but if memory serves Green was about the same.

People on HF seem really down on Bouchard. It's weird.

32 points last playoff run is #3 all-time for a defenseman in a playoff run, ever.
His 26 assists last playoff run is #1 all-time for a defenseman in a playoff run, ever.

I voted Bouchard. He's still early in his career too, I bet there's a lot more great things to come.

Points in a playoff run are super important. But it's not really a relevant record since most players don't go deep every year. And even if a player's team does make the final, they might have played more or less games than some other team that made the final.

Bouchard had a great playoff performance last year. 32 points in 25 games! That stands on it's own.

But not a lot of posters will care that it's "the most assists by a defenceman in a playoff run" because how many defencemen every year get to play 25 postseason games?

Those Caps teams were so fun to watch lol. All offense with no regards for defense whatsoever.

Mike Green was such a force in his prime. To me at least, i clock him as one of the first of this sort of "new breed" of total rover offensive defencemen. He made that style of game seem viable.

Bouchard is more just...a kinda slow, not great defensively, powerplay merchant with a big shot and the two best players in the game to feed to the puck to in transition.

Because he sucks at defense.

Who's to say a Shea Theodore or Josh Morrissey couldn't also put those numbers up leeching off of McDavid and Draisaitl?
