Scott Arniel came into Columbus as a first time NHL head coach, and he came in there loaded with jealousy and arrogance. His mindset was "now I am an NHL coach and I am going to get even for any shortcomings in my playing career".

Scott Arniel played pro hockey a long time at the NHL and AHL level. Scott Arniel didn't think he was paid enough for the time he put in. He didn't like guys that weren't married. Because in his words "I wish you guys had a wife and kids when you came to the NHL so you know how much they cost". He actually said that in a meeting.

I was playing against top lines...the only stat that doesn't look good is the plus minus. Pitt beat us 9-1 one night and I was -4. Other then that 1 game my plus minus was just like everyone else's on the team. Anyways...I was playing well....then he scratched me 10 games in a row. Refused to meet with me. Wouldn't play me. The team was getting spanked left and right while I was being scratched...still wouldn't play me.

2 reasons.....he was jealous that I was single and making good cash...and secondly he is extremely arrogant and wanted more power in the organization. By scratching me who looks bad? Well first off I do. And secondly the GM looks terrible cause he is the one that signed me to be the highest paid defenseman on the team. So what ends up happening? I want a trade so Arniel kicks me off the team, I get bought out - and no matter what the reason is a buyout is a black mark against you. And its been downhill from that point forward.

I know it sounds kinda crazy....but I put a lot of time into this and those are the reasons. If I was playing like **** I would say so. I was a pretty good player in Columbus. My first year was great, my second year I played the whole year with groin problems, and the third year arrogant jealous Scott Arniel got hired and that's the end of the story.

The next season he tried the same tactics with Derrick Brassard, another single guy making good money, but fortunately for Derrick - Arniel got canned before he could finish him off.

Yikes.

Brassard can't comment because he currently plays under Arniel. I'm sure Allan Walsh would like to say a few things too. Get Arniel's side of the story, and the reality is probably somewhere in the middle..

Regardless of whether or not they supposedly buried the hatchet, I have no idea why this team would risk bringing in Arniel given his history with Brassard. Makes absolutely no sense. Especially when the kid seemed completely rejuvenated at the end of last year.

Same thing i said when they hired him. Weird

and yet he is struggling this year... :help:

Commodore sounds like an idiot. Im pretty sure Arniel wasn't benching him and Brassard because he was jealous of rich single guys. Ridiculous stuff.

That said, completely agree that the Arniel hiring was stupid for the Rangers given a history of friction in Columbus, whatever the reasons may be.

It wasn't necessary to bring in Arniel for a variety of reasons.

Too many former players on this team were around when he was fired, losing record with those players, well-documented rift with Brassard, and it's just adding yet another person who was associated with the losing culture of Columbus.

interesting interview. The reporter asked some pretty good questions.

He definitely doesn't hold back discussing Arniel. Makes me think if he saw him on the street they would be throwing down.

I'm sure some of it is true. Is it so odd to think of an NHL coach as an arrogant potential megalomaniac?

Mike Keenan says hello.

I agree. He seems like an *******, but no one gets that far in the NHL as a complete moron. Commodore has too much free time. I don't know how he played in Columbus, but I know he was declining the last few seasons in NJ. He sounds like Theo with the way he's talking lol probably an awesome guy to have a beer with.

Scott Arniel is an *******, by all accounts, and clearly not a good coach, but he's not a 22-year-old HS lacrosse coach.

We absolutely don't have time for this kind of horse **** on the team right now. It's either water under the bridge or time to say goodbye to one or both of Arniel/Brassard.

There's no indication that it's an issue on the team at the moment. Commodore's comments have nothing to do with the current Rangers team or Arniel and Brassard's current relationship

Commodore sounds not only like a bitter washed up player, but also a crazy person.

When Arniel was hired the rumors did scare me a bit. But after seeing this interview all my fears are gone. Commodore gives the most ridiculous reasons that he just comes off as the bitter delusional one.

Frankly, this Commodore interview is pretty meaningless. Arniel is an assistant coach. If he was interfering with Brassard as a player, AV would just tell him to **** off. It would be much different if he was the head coach.

Eh. I question Commodore's credibility.

Agreed and FWIW i think Brassard has been very good (outside of the horrendous giveaway) the past handful of games.

i was afraid at first, but after seeing a PP that can actually burn teams, i am quite pleased with arniel

They're both adults. Brassard is averaging 2:19 of PP time per game. Only Richards and Stepan are getting more than 3 minutes of PP time per game. He's obviously not getting shafted for opportunities. Considering that this fanbase was ready to destroy Mike Sullivan for the PP, we should all been praising Arniel.
