Well 1001 now...but I figured it deserved it's own thread. He's been a solid middle 6 center for over a decade and a half. He chose to stay in Calgary when many wanted to leave. Plays with his heart on his sleeve and is an absolute gem of a dude and teammate by all accounts.

  • 73rd player to play 1000 games with a single franchise.
  • 2nd player to play 1000 games with the Calgary Flames.
  • 8th all time in points for the Calgary Flames.
  • 2023 King Clancy Memorial Award.
  • Captained Sweden to Gold at the 2018 IIHF WC.
  • Him and his wife Frida are very active in the Calgary community, and have raised over $400,000 for the ALS Society of Alberta.
  • They raised over $183,000 for ALS research in Alberta.

If you look up 'does the little things right' in the dictionary you'll find a picture of Mikael Backlund. On and off the ice this is one of those above average people.

Out of all the Pacific division centermen through the years, he's the one I never notice out there against us. I can't even recall his # off the top of my head. So many others have scored daggers against us. Kopitar, Getzbald, Draisaitl, McD, Jt Miller, Kadri, Conroy, Lombardi, Daymond Langkow, but never this guy. What does he even do out there?

1000 games of nothingness I guess.
