The DJ hypothesis is mostly silly because there other players that have outside hobbies and he was a DJ when was dominating. But is it really crazy to think he's a paycheck guy who finds his outside interests more important than hockey. We know people like that or even are people like that. It's probably less likely for a hockey player than an accountant considering how much determination it takes just to get to this level but it's still a possibility.
In the scenario you presented, imo, the issue would be him not finding hockey important. Not him DJing.

The money thing is a possibility, though—the pressure/expectations/complacency that can engender.

Also to be clear I hate clubbing lol. I’m not lobbying for DJs.

Mika should be a grownup and go into the NHLPA assistance program it he is having mental issues.

This is my biggest gripe right now. I will shit post making fun of him until the dogs come home because that helps me cope as a fan and (as far as I know) he’ll never hear or read a word I say so I don’t have to feel bad. In reality, I believe he is in a bad place mentally, going through something - possibly related to having a 1.5 year old at home but being on the road a lot, creating an unequal workload and resentment from wifey, etc. and the extended post season runs don’t help that - so I do have empathy and sympathy for him… but if that is the case - and it looks SO clear this dude is damn near end of his rope depressed - than just step away for a bit and get yourself some help. It isn’t heroic to play through it. You’re killing your team and infecting the room with your mopes. Take the time you need. If that’s what it is, we’ll be FINE while you’re out and MUCH better if you actually come back with your shit figured out. If that’s ISN’T the case than you need to eff off to Andromeda and never return.

Like, I get it… pro athletes have a magnifying glass on them and media pressure, etc. and falling short in the ECF twice and such makes for a lot of extra pressure, but as a man you still are a massive success, providing AMPLY for your family, able to retire very young and enjoy life, etc. I was a PTSD veteran with a baby, debt and a job barely above the poverty line who ended up going through a brutal divorce, which left me even more poor due to lawyer fees and child support, lost my job (not traded to another billion dollar sports franchise where I’d continue to be a king, just in a different city) and I’m almost positive nobody ever saw me looking as sad, pathetic and sorry for myself as Mika looks damn near every shift for like 2 solid years now. Not saying what I went through was worse (objectively, I can’t really see how it wasn’t) but JFC man, stop looking like you just saw your dog get hit by the school bus this morning, every f***ing day.

I mean where is all the mental issues stuff coming from? Because he looks sad and defeated? I'm seriously asking bc they is the new thing flying around the Internet. Is there anything factual or is this speculation time like it was with him giving up meat? Let's be serious, Mika has never been the same since he had long covid. He's never had the jump and energy, and just never the same moxie and confidence. Maybe he's just never going to be that player again and this is the early slope down

Supposedly some Swedish insider posted that he had something akin to a panic attack mid game recently and so people have been saying, if that’s the case and he’s going through something with his mental health, he needs to take time off. If that’s not the case, he’s an anchor who will be bought out in a few years time.

I've seen people have a one off panic attack and then be fine shortly after.

Seems like uncomfortable speculation at best about a topic that shouldn't have speculation. He just looks like a broken player with no confidence.

I knew this post would be epic and it was.

I have suffered through debilitating depression and life was unbearable. I'm not one who hides his feelings well at all but with the caveat that my job was a lot simpler than his I remember at one point after the fact telling a coworker I was depressed at one point and he was surprised. With Mika that's not the case at all.

However, at some point I stopped coming to work and it got worse. And it go better when I went back to work. So I don't know maybe taking time off would put him over the edge? I remember the Rangers had a Ukrainian hockey player who committed suicide so I don't take any of this shit lightly.

Legitimately dropping him from my fantasy team tomorrow. I hope he goes on to get better, whatever that means for him, and wins someone else a championship.
