So if the Rangers asked Mika to waive and he refused, won’t that be another locker room issue especially when this group is not mentally strong at all.

Just because he hasn't waived, it doesn't necessarily mean he was asked. Players aren't usually asked proactively. It only happens when a team has a deal in place.

Wings fan here, I come in peace.

Genuine question, what's the deal with Mika? Seems the majority of the Rags fan base has turned on him, why is that? He seems to be on the scoresheet pretty consistently.

Does he have a low compete level? Streaky? Perimeter player? Hoping one of yall could enlighten me.

Soft...Doesn't like to battle for pucks at all. His whole demeanor just seems to be that of someone who has lost confidence in himself. He's whiffed on more than a few great chances this year. Terrible 5v5 and PP isn't quite what it used to be either. He basically just appears to be a shell of himself.

It's part of a larger issue with our core of Zibanejad, Kreider, Panarin, Fox, formerly Trouba, and now this season Trocheck, all just looking like they're playing preseason games. No intensity is the one thing that sticks out. These feelings started last season really but everything has been ten times worse this year. The Rangers have been a shit 5v5 team for a while now and Zibanejad is probably the biggest culprit in that from a production standpoint.

People have been on Zibanejad for a while. He has a lot of interests outside of hockey including being a DJ, and is openly vegan which a lot of people think is a problem for a pro athlete. Combine that with this year where he has not looked engaged, and it's just a bad situation. If the team was playing really well he might get more of a pass, but...yeah we just lost 7-5 to Seattle at home.

If I had to choose a current roster player to skate for my life, Mika would be pretty far down the list.

I am not sure what is going on with Zib. Whatever it is, doesn't prevent you from playing hard and backchecking and not giving away the puck and not trying. Also, what is going on with him breaking his sticks. Seems to happen at an inopportune time, which is not helping him.

Anyone still defending this bum from having an extended run on the pine?

Anyone?
I dont think anyone was/is defending his current play. I myself was arguing against the hot takes and hyperbole people made about his career in general and to some extent pointing out that he up until last game was trending in the right direction.

But then again, who on this current team is worth defending except Cuylle?

I believe this upcoming stretch of games over the holidays will decide this current rosters future.

Skip to 2:15 for the answer to your question. This isn't an exception - it's how he plays now.

There is a recourse but the team refuses to do it. He needs to watch the game from upstairs. If he can be this bad and not face repercussions then the message is the team doesn't care.

Well yeah I mean they could and should try that but there's no guarantee it works. It could make things worse if you're trying to earnestly trade the guy. The coach doesnt seem like he's willing.

Mika is a one trick pony. His 1 timer. Its been exposed, everyone knows about it. So the emporer has no clothes at this point. People are calling him an asshole and so he hangs his head in shame and becomes one. I blame Dolan for the shit show that is the Rangers. All he cares about is money, and as long as the Rangers ring the cash register for him he'll keep milking the system with his R.E. tax breaks and his captive TV market and laugh all the way to the bank. He's not an activist owner at all. George Steinbrenner was and the Yankees of that era were bad ass mofos. Steve Cohen is too, why the Mets are on everyone's radar. Dolan is just a sad little spoiled douche. And so the Rangers and their fans suffer.

The worst thing about it is the deniability. The stare at Lindgren after the goal, which i didn't catch directly, but other people noticed. Things like that.

That's what happens (can happen) when players get past 30 years old.

After we signed Brad Richards to his huge contract he put up a good first season with us at 31 years old.

At 32, the very next season, his play had declined so significantly that basically everyone knew the Rangers were gonna use their final compliance buyout on him.
