Player Discussion Mika Zibanejad

I never saw this before. Never knew Hank had a podcast. It's interesting seeing the actual personality and getting some backstory. Especially with Hank, the conversation is really genuine and casual. Like he asks how Mika deals with pressure. Mika having a new kid. Wanting to live in the city because it reminds him of being in Stockholm and the drive up to Westchester gives him time to call his family. Playing Yahtzee with the wife. I guess the reality of having a kid has finally collided with living in the city.

f*** me too, I didn’t know about this pod either. Thanks for sharing!

He said that DJ'ing at the music festival in Sweden was the same high as scoring 5 goals in a game but sustained for a whole hour. Part of that equation he said was being as a DJ, there's no one else. It's all on you. In a team sport, someone is there to help you when you fail. Didn't really like that answer. He also said his kid will probably take time away from music.

If he said Skydiving gave him more of an adrenaline rush than scoring 5 goals would you have such a problem with it?

So Mika has sold his townhouse in NYC, and I ASSUME (and I know someone will tell me if I'm wrong) he has probably moved to the burbs? Westchester or CT? Anyway, a fresh start of sorts. Maybe that carries over into his play next season. And a long off season to reflect, reset and train. Hoping for a renaissance from him, I don't think he's physically broken down that bad.
With this long summer I'm going to have very little patience with any player coming back unprepared. I especially think Mika and Lafrenierre both REALLY need to show up 100% ready to go. Laf's exit comments were at least encouraging.

Then he should be a dj instead

It isn't. It just doesn't fit your narrative.
I think it doesn't fit the narrative you think I have or are projecting on to me. I have not written nearly enough for you to know what I really think unless you have read every one of my posts, but then you should know better. #failure

I assume Mika enjoys hockey djing or not. I say that because it becomes a real grind being in the NHL. Its much different than an hour game 1-2 days a week. Its hard to do at a high level for long if your heart isnt in it.

I don't think he's bringing in $8.5 mil to DJ. Having other things in your life other than your job should be a good thing but you still have to prioritize. It's an obscene amount of guaranteed money also over a fairly lengthy period of time with some security built into the contract and people do sometimes take shit for granted.

If he's coming back his commitment is important. Much of the fanbase is in the process of or has already turned against him. Another season like the last one and I think he's really going to start to hear it. If he's coming back this year he needs to win some people back.

It's funny if you'd asked me 2/3 years ago who our best all purpose forward was I would have said Mika. There are some of his defenders here who put any critique down as hating but we've seen him be a much better player and that's how he earned that contract. We want that better player back. We don't want a 70-75% replica of that player.

I agree 100%.

Defense and effort need to be addressed.

The new coach needs to be sure next season will not be a repeat for Mika. If he can't get to the bottom of it then it may be best for everyone to consider other options.

If he hadn't been so terrible for nearly half the year and obviously been on a down trend the previous couple of years I think his comments would have been given a lot more consideration or himself given a lot more slack

Come to camp and perform if you're going to resist being traded. That's all.

Basically where I'm at. Whatever happened, happened. I'm sure whatever conversations that needed to happen have also happened. Now it's time to look toward the next season.

I also don't give much of a shit what Mika or anyone else on the team does in their off time, what the players post on their social media, or side projects/deals they are working on. This team needs some time away from anything hockey-related for a total mental reset going into next season.

But for whoever shows up next season, if they have been at all worried that they might be moved, well they better come prepared to show that they want to be here. If they can't do what they used to do, then show what else you can do to help the team. Clean slate, new coach(es). Just show what they can do and let the coaches figure out how to make them all fit together into a cohesive group.

I don't need to read your posts or to understand you to comment on your post. You aren't worth that much of my time.

You didn't like his answer about prefering the high from DJing vs scoring 5 goals because it lasts for an hour. You also didn't like him stating that DJing is a solo act vs team sports being a group effort and there is someone to catch you if you fall. You also added that his kid will take time from his music, which is painting him to have a Music > Parenting > Hockey attitude.

That was your narrative in this post. All three of your points are comparing him playing hockey to him producing/performing electronic music and the preference that he has to it. My example was Skydiving. Something everyone could relate to. A solo hobby. Noone is saving you if the parachute doesn't open. An adrenaline high like no other. Direct comparison.

And you would be wrong to have those conclusions. Glad you think I'm some sort of monster.
