Player Discussion Mika Zibanejad

At least Mika's playing hockey during this time off. Lafreniere is probably in Belize drinking Pina Coladas.
Maybe, but at least Laf will be training in the offseason, while Mika is touring his DJ career for 3 months.

What good is this pointless tournament anyway for someone like Laf, rather him take his vacation now, and come mid May he can ramp up his training to acutally improve his game. Nice long offseason for the young guys to get stronger.

Can't it be both? Go represent your country. Remember what it's like to win and play for a purpose. Or cynically, play with other players in the league and get the scoop on their teams to see if those players will advocate to their GMs to acquire you.

He's young. If he had any brains, all his money would go into investments, especially while the economy is so down. Compound interest the shit out of those millions and you won't have to worry about your next contract. That next contract will all be spending money.

It can, but maybe he just wants to get fully healthy, before starting up his offseason training. Again, the tournament is so meaningless and I don't see how it helps him at all. For a 1st year NHL player, sure, but i'd rather him just focus on training. This will be the longest offseason he's had since coming into the NHL.

Hypothetically the one good thing would be if he is playing because he just loves playing. A lot of guys want time off after a long season. If Mika has that passion for the game that he just loves playing then that would be a good thing. Now I do not know why he is playing but that would be my glass half full outlook. :)

Mika seems a lot more willing to represent Sweden well than represent the NYR well... maybe they have a nicer GM and he lets Mika know what's going on... hahahaha.

Disclaimer: Attn Mika Mafia: I don't care if you disagree. It's subjective. I don't care if ANYone agrees with me, that's how I see it. That's how I'm GOING to see it; no matter what you type. Hahahaha.

Well, I guess he solves the RW problem now. That contract is not getting traded until he wants it to be. Might as well get something out of him regardless of his yearly declining production.

House sales don't usually happen overnight.
This appears to be the listing. Seems like Mika only lived there for like 3-4 years. Maybe this home is the cause of his poor play and he's purging it to renew his game. Sold on 4/30
Also if you look at the sale history, this sale puts him up $3M pre closing + taxes

If that's true I'd like to know why he has looked like his dog just died the last two years.

Id feel better about Mika playing as a defensive 3C if his defense wasnt the worst part of his game the last couple seasons. He's good on the PK but that doesnt equate to good defense.
I think Mika’s defensive issues are him doing something dumb in the O-zone leading to the opposing team getting a nice rush chance the other way. Also him getting stuck behind the net or in the corner after a fly-by. My guess is that as 3C with a real mandate to play shut down the opposing best line, he’d be good.
I think his issue is he can’t walk and chew gum anymore. Use him as a specialist and he’ll be ok.

Apparently the house had a NMC but the neighbors made his life really miserable to force the sale. Drury has been spotted taking notes.

Tidy piece of business by Mika honestly.

Add real estate mogul to the list of off ice titles people can rip him for.

I never saw this before. Never knew Hank had a podcast. It's interesting seeing the actual personality and getting some backstory. Especially with Hank, the conversation is really genuine and casual. Like he asks how Mika deals with pressure. Mika having a new kid. Wanting to live in the city because it reminds him of being in Stockholm and the drive up to Westchester gives him time to call his family. Playing Yahtzee with the wife. I guess the reality of having a kid has finally collided with living in the city.

Mika was PPG since the JT Miller trade. 33 points in 33 games. If he can be that player going forward, he is worth the $8.5 AAV even if his board play leaves a lot to be desired.

Kreider and the defense are the glaring issues with this team in my opinion.
