Meh, I don't think his intention was to make ZBad "look good". Given AK's history of pulling out obscure stats for us, I'd say there was no more intent behind it other than he checked out some numbers and found something interesting.

You're 100% right though; some guys would use cherry-picked stats like that to justify a position. IRONICALLY, those guys probably aren't stats proponents.

Thanks. That is my intention. I don't want to make players look good or bad. I want to find something that has been *** years since it last happened etc. And in this case I thought it was funny the last time it happened was also in Nashville.

It's not a big deal, guys. I just see these stats by the networks all the time. When the networks do it it's to create a story thinking that most of the viewers are idiots (which they are).

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm leaning big time towards dumping Zibanejad at the deadline and keeping Hayes. Zibanejad is lazy. He plays almost no defense. As much as it would hurt to give up a righty shot, if the Av's would give up Ottawa's first rounder and Jost in a deal of Zibanejad and Pionk or another defenseman, I'd probably do it.

Zibanejad has the 2nd highest DZ starts on the team among forwards after Namestnikov. How does he play almost no defense?
 
You are unbelievable. Stop being a stat geek and open your eyes and actually understand what you are watching during the games. Plus/minus can be debatable. In Zibanejad's case it isn't. He's a -14 and Kreider who he plays with a lot is a plus 6. You should listen to yourself. You spend almost every post quoting idiotic stats that mean absolutely nothing. This guy hasn't ever lived up to his potential. Plus/minus is a stat that I put something into if it makes sense. When I watch games I see Zibanejad constantly not covering his man or hustling to win battles with his size. Kreider on the other hand does almost every game. It's not hard to see. Plus/minus can be a mirage at times like the one year it was with Malik. However, of the few stats I look at, that one once in a while is telling. It is in Zibanejad's case. However, the most important stat is just watching the guy play and count how many shifts he doesn't play hard on defense. It's way over 50%
 
I honestly think you just take the opposite view of posters no matter how ridiculous it is just to start arguments. Next thing you will tell us on this board is how Boo Nieves will be a better player than Lias Andersson.

Let's see how many people agree with your ridiculous statement that Zibanejad "doesn't play defense" Saying I am unbelievable is rich, coming from you. You're the biggest joke here. Your opinions are just ridiculous and you try to be the "edgy" guy here with unique viewpoints. It doesn't make you look smart. It just makes you look like an uninformed teenager.

Well that whole spiel comes off as "soft Millennial Euro with yellow hair isn't to my liking, and I'll throw in plus/minus to make my concerns sound legitimate". It's the same shit we've been hearing since the trade went down. Certain people wouldn't like Zibanejad is he WAS Barkov.

There are legitimate concerns though.
 
Speaking of the trade, I finally read through that thread, and for having just had my favorite player traded, I thought I was very well behaved.

Not once did I shit on Mika or the trade itself.

I shit on AV and the Rangers in general, but I still do that.

I was a huge Brassard fan, and was disappointed when I heard about the trade. But never did I dislike Zibanejad for it. He's not perfect, but this "he plays no defense at all" narrative is just BS

It's perplexing. He has the 2nd worst 5v5 Sv% (89.11) over the past two seasons among players with 500+ minutes, only Hertl's is worse (89.04). The Rangers as a whole has a significantly better 5v5 Sv% over the sample (91.90 vs 91.05).

Nobody else on the Rangers is even close, DeAngelo is second with 90.53 and Fast third with 90.67. JT Miller's lazy ass had 92.90.

It's an entirely new phenomenon too, he only had one season before 2017-18 where his 5v5 Sv% was below 92.00 (2013-14).

I hope it's just statistical happenstance and I do believe Zibanejad is a good player.

But if we made the decision to move him and make Hayes the 2C of the future, I'd be open to it.

To be fair that hair and those skinny jeans from when he broke his leg a few years back, coupled with the EDM business would be enough to turn me against anyone.
