It was nice for him to get that ES goal. Was a beauty also. But have to give a lot of credit to Buch for that pass. Kreider also doing some work also to pick up 2nd assist. Really am loving that line.

Boy, has it been quiet about this guy. His first season was hempered by a bad injury, that he openly admitted hindered his game mentally. Now he's back, management has put it on his shoulders to be the #1C for NYR and so far, he has done so in spades. But, since the nhl.com page is a bigger joke than Vigneault's system, I can't look it up. Let's just say I'm pretty sure he's at the top of point producers of all Rangers so far this season.

He's been on fire considering his heavy responsibility and the situation where I think his coach is a detriment to his play. That Vigneault has buried Buchnevich as a potential linemate he can click with, well, what else do you expect? I'm just surprised Vigneault didn't bring back Tanner Glass from the dead to play on the first line, with the most minutes of all players.

There are some beacons in this joke of a season and Zibanejad is one of them. His shot is more accurate, he's playing with confidence, he's good at entering the zone with puck control and he's playing with confidence. He finds the passing lanes and he's contributing way more than some other players should, where I again understand it can't be easy playing for a coach that is dumb.

So far this season, he's done everything and more that was hoped from him in the trade with Brassard.

Yeah Zibby has been great so far this season

And he does lead the team in points right now, with 13. He actually is at a PPG at the moment

The Rangers starting to look like the winners in this trade. Ottawa took a huge risk trading a young world class talent on his way up. Looks like the management underestimated Mika.

The big thing this season so far is Mika being more consistent. If being coached well and put under some pressure he may be on his way to stardom.

It's kind of cool with his roots, raised in Sweden, his father from Iran and a mother from Finland. Without being political I would say this is good for hockey.

Let's say if Mika would have played for the LA Kings, then he would have got tons of recognition because of his Iranian roots. LA having a huge large number of people with Iranian roots, almost half a million of people (!?). I believe even the mayor in Beverly Hills for many year was from Iran. Iranians are known to be very nationalistic, they were forced out from their home country because of a really f***ed up regime.

Kind of reminds me when we finally gave up on Kovalev, and traded him for Nedved. Nedved was a solid player for us, but Kovalev who was the younger player was a star for Pittsburgh for a couple of seasons.

I think we almost tended to forget just how much upside Zibanejad has.

This is a 6'2, 220 pound center who has a ton of skill, a ton of strength and a mean streak when he wants to use it. When he's on, this is a guy who backs opposing players up.

The biggest question has always been about the fire in his belly, and that goes back to when he was a teenager. There are moments when you see that he's vexed, and he is the total package.

Last year and this year, we've seen flashes of the 25 goal, 65 point player he should easily be. The question is whether he can do it all season, and that remains to be seen. But 25/65 is a very reasonable expectation for him, and I'd probably argue that his top end potential, based on his skill set, is actually more in the 30/75 territory. He really is that good. We'll see what he does.

He's off to an excellent start. In an ideal world we'd have another player better than him still, but that's for management to figure out.

He's also younger than Boo Nieves.

I think that's something else we almost seem to forget. We use the age and development approach with a number of guys, but for some reason it doesn't seem we use it as much with Zibanejad. This is kid who we acquired at 23 - he's still only 24.

He certainly looked like a legit first line center last year until he got hurt - he was never the same after that. This year he once again has started the year looking like a legit first line center.

Whether he can consistently perform at that level remains to be seen, but I'm just not sure we truly grasp how much talent he has. If this were a North American kid, and we drafted him 6th overall in 2013, I can't help but feel that everyone would be talking about the potential upside more, and we'd be a lot more excited with what we saw pre-injury last year, and have seen thus far this season.

Iran is an interesting country that has a rich history. The people of Iran are great people but their government is oppressive. Mika's dad was lucky to have gotten out of there in time.

Through 16 games he looks like a first line center. Playing both ends of the ice. Development and its really nice to see.

The way our PP is working and the components in it(mainly Zibby's shot, Shattenkirk running QB, Kreider in Front)

Zibanejad will continue to put up points. If his even strength scoring goes down he'll continue put up solid PP numbers

It has been a while like years. We thought we had it when Stepan had 4 pts in his first NHL game.
But Zib was on/off in Ottawa so I`m not too confident, and it might be too early in season to predict anything.

Do not jinx it!

Trying to get Leon D. for him while he is on the PPG race = better value, and if we can move Smith contract in a package it`s a win win for us. :)

Just check pages 5-8 of this thread. The hive mentality was out to get him because he wasn't Brassard. Even when he out produced the f*** out of him all season.

Something that isn't mentioned that much is DJ Zbad's ability to win faceoffs. He's very good at it. Stepan was (is) awful at faceoffs. In the game today, having a #1C that can win faceoffs is important. So, that's another department where there's an upgrade.

He has found good chemistry with both Buchnevich (so nice to see him bloom out as well) and Kreider. A really good line combination.

I don't know if I want to pay him $8.5M for next 8 years. LD is excellent... now.
