Someone recenlty said, and i think it was Avery on the SC podcast. The difference between McDonagh and KAM at the same age is McD was coming out of a corner scrum with the puck and making the correct dish after. Can anybody tell me why yall hate KAM? Yall were hyping him up at one point.
KAM has so many tools, but just isnt making the instinctual plays a seasoned defender would.
Now, McD was exceptional so thats an unfair comparison. He saw the ice and developing plays at an elite level and knew how to skate to make the space smaller for the attacking players.
But, KAM is athletically equal. He just doesnt have the experience. Some NCAA and a couple pro years? He was a forward most of his pre-adult years. And honeslty, Housley has been a disaster of a D Coach.
Im not sold on ditching Key. After he came back from his injury hes the only one to speak to the press in a non-depressed state outside of Kakko who paid the price because he said it wrong.
But NYR are facing a contract year with him and its gonna include term. The cap hit he seeks may have alot to do with wether he is moved or not moreso than his play. I personally give him a pass on his play atm due to coaching.
Full disclosure: Ive brought up trading him previously, but thats my personal preference when all our D were playing better. I see more Tom Poti than Ryan McDonagh. And this team needs more out of its top 4 than a Tom Poti clone.
