EDM might not exactly be "Canada's team" but they're at least a team located in Canada and that's good enough for me. It's been way too long since the cup came home to where it belongs and let's face it, the Leafs aren't getting the job done so ... GO Oilers!

My favourite former Leaf was Zach Hyman so I was as a diehard Leafs fan was cheering and living vicariously through his success. Now after leading the NHL playoffs in hits with 111 in 14 games he broke his wrist,

However I like McDavid and so Oilers have really become Canada's team as the most Cup competitive.

Not a chance. Will never cheer for a team or fanbase that despises us as much as Edmonton fans do. They deserve misery. Only one person I would be happy for and that is 97. I am suddenly a huge Bennett fan and think he falls into the goalie by accident.
Agree in kind with everything except the bold. Bennett is a rat through and through. Knocked our MVP out of the playoffs, no discipline afterwards, terrible series of events. Talk about missing the days of Clark and Gilmour where we could set our watches with expectation that any act of impunity would be met with retaliation.

If he becomes a Leaf, I'll cheer for him then - I'lI don't think he'll come here all the same. But I only have curiosity for the Final, no love for either team, though much less derision for the Oilers than the Panthers.

I think the Panthers fan base loathe us just as much, but in a way that includes the same kind of ridicule found throughout their lineup, and because of the proximity to the loss, it feels worse.

Hopefully we get another crack at them next year.

"Rival" within the country versus Divisional Rival. I'll actually take the former on this one.

I don't give a flying f*** about what fans of other teams think of Toronto. That's their problem.

I'm a Leafs fan. If they aren't playing, I'll cheer for another Canadian team (except Ottawa). If they aren't playing, I'll cheer for another O6 team (except Boston). If they aren't playing, former Leafs, or just the hockey game.

And I have a bit of a soft spot for underdogs.

I can't find 2 other players who deserve a cup more than McDavid and Draisaitl. They have been putting their hearts into it for years now trying to will Edmonton to a cup and they may just get it done this year, lord knows they will have earned it.

In any other year I'd never cheer for the Oilers in a Cup Final, or any other Canadian team for that matter.

This year though it's different. The political situation of course is a factor. But the thought of Tkachuk and Marchand both raising Lord Stanley's mug in the same year ... There has to be a line.

Hope the Oilers win it in 6 - in Florida specifically - just to make the loss for the Panthers that much more salty.

McDavid and Draisaitl have the drive and determination that our guys don't. I begrudgingly respect the hell out of them, and would be satisfied to see them win. I consider all Canadian teams to be big rivals and hate the idea of one of them winning, but those two guys deserve it.

That they've got some character ex-Leafs in Brown and Kappy helps. Sucks that Hyman is hurt.

I have a lot of respect for the Panthers too. Their rats are effective, I don't find fault in that. But I don't really care, and I appreciate the storyline of the Oilers more.

I'm too jaded and beaten down by our team to want to see any other fanbase enjoy success. I know Oilers fans and I want them to suffer along with the rest of us. I don't know any Panthers fans, they basically don't exist in the real world. If Florida wins it's like no one won.

I do find it funny they have Hyman, Brown and Kapanen.

Those guys broke in with TOR when their top three guys were young, and there was a lot of hype for that core and for other young prospects at the time.

Does their success elsewhere suggest TOR's core wasn't actually that good or that management didn't do a good enough job of building a team? They've proven they can be pieces on a true contender elsewhere.
