I would trade one of Gudbranson or Tanev for the 12th overall. Easy decision imo we need a new mix on our d core.

And i would trade Thomas Hickey for Boeser but im smart enough to know Benning wouldnt do it. guess Canuck fans havent schooled you yet

He wouldn't be on the board, because the Canucks should have already picked him at #7

if you want him at 7 feel free. I like him but if you taking him leaves a better defender on the board for me, Im all for it. enjoy Veleno

thats the beauty of having 2 picks in the top 12 the more forwards taken early the better defenders which we need are left for us

We already have our version of Gubrandson . His name is Scott Mayfield. No team should be blessed with more than one.

Tanev doesnt get a mid teens pick unless a team is in win now mode over the next 2 yrs.

Tanevs value would be a pick in the 20s or a team tràdes a high 2nd abd good prospect.

His injury history hurts his value.

Tanev might bring back a mid-late teen 1st on his own.

Tor: Tanev
Van: Pick 18, Carrick, Bracco
CLB: Pick 25, Baertschi (ret.)

I'd rather keep both our picks unless someone surprising hits the block - like Hamilton getting moved from Boston to Calgary. We have holes to fill on both offense & defense and look to be in a prime position to snag a defenseman & a forward like Velano.

Gudbranson isn't good enough, and Tanev is a bit too injury prone. I'm guessing Lou would rather go for a cheaper option - an older veteran defenseman to tide us over for a couple years while our draft picks develop.

Veleno/Hayton and Smith/Wilde?

considering Bracco and Carrick have basicaly worn out their welcome in toronto the first one is fair

but toronto better be ready to cover for tanev when injuries inevitably strike

Veleno/Hayton and Smith/Wilde?

Cut the almost certain top 3 (Dahlin, Svech, Zadina) from the equation first of all. That leaves the following:

Forwards - Tkachuk, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi
Defense - Boqvist, Hughes, Bouchard, Dobson, Smith

Which means one of these players is guaranteed to be on the board at #11. If all five of those defensemen are off the board, take whichever of those three guys fell first and foremost. Then maybe explore trading down a couple spots and see what kind of value you can get, as opposed to taking Wilde at #12 which I think is too much of a reach for him. If Velano or another forward gets picked in the top 10, it will be mighty tempting to take two defensemen from the list.

how has bracco worn out his welcome?

32pts in 50 games as an AHL rookie this year...
should also be noted the marlies roll 4 lines and the leading scorer only had 59pts

bolded are the only guys i think even make it to 10. then the oilers may take smith.

you like Kotkaniemi over Veleno?

I don't see Kotkaniemi making it to our pick - typically a late rising prospect like him gets picked earlier than expected.

It's almost like playing chicken with the teams drafting 4-10. Yes, there are these high-end defensemen on the board, and some teams like Detroit seem almost locked in to taking them. But for Ottawa, Arizona, Vancouver, Chicago, Rags, and Edmonton I see the case to be made picking a high-end forward like Kotkaniemi, Wahlstrom, Velano, maybe even Farabee over the defenseman the mocks are telling them to pick.

If Ottawa & Arizona take Tkachuk & Wahlstrom, it'll get real interesting to see if 4 of the next 5 picks are all defense.

edmonton isnt taking Smith, if they are separating Mc David and Draisaitl as they say they need a wing, they think Klefbom and Sekera will be healthy this year

then play him yourself, certain fans i trust in toronto tell me he and Carrick are DONE in Toronto and i have no reason to doubt them

This is because he is getting healthy scratched in the playoffs?
the return of johnsson, and additions of grundstrom/engvall are the reason for that

bracco will be top 6, if not a top line player for the marlies next year.
as a former season ticket holder and someone that still follows the marlies very closely, you need to find new sources

well that doesnt make sense because unless tkachuk falls to 10, their pick will likely be 2-3 years away from NHL duty
if a guy like hughes/dobson slip to 10 you actually think the oilers are gonna take ANOTHER winger after yamamoto and puljujarvi the years prior?

if theres a team that needs a winger its edmonton

lets play a game

how many wingers on there entire team had more than 13 goals?

the answer is Zero

theres a reason they need wingers

they have 2 world class centers and still they have no wingers even close to 20 goals

Maroon had 14, so you are wrong right away
one of nuge/drai was always playing the win and they each had 20+ as well

oilers had the 7th most GA...1 away from the 5th most. they need D help badly.
counting on bouncebacks from sekera and klefbom, while expecting larsson to be good and nurse to turn into a top pairing guy is a recipe for disaster

no hes no longer on the roster I was aware of him but he cant score goals if hes no longer on the team

thats why i wrote ON there (Sic, should have been their) team

McDavid Draisaitl and RNH are not Wingers neither are Strome or Khaira quite simply, they only play out of position because the Oilers have the worst wing group in the entire NHL

I say that your defense is deeper than your Wings are

im talking strictly wings here, youve got the deepest pool of centers by far but your wings leave a lot to be desired and I see it frustrates Mc David because he sets people up beautifully and sometimes other centers arent thinking on the same page, sometime 2 centers on a line are too creative where a great winger just buries the shot

If Ryan Merkley is still available mid teen to late in the 1st round. I don't mind doing something like this 37th overall and Baertschi for a late 1st and a 3rd
