Voted for another year.

I want to see what the team looks like with But & Sim. At that point I think the core is all on the roster and then I'd like to see how BA uses other assets to build around that core. (Note that Iginla could be a core player... If he ever plays for Utah. Could be an excellent trade chip since he's probably two seasons away from the NHL and helping Utah if he stays.)

I'm a fan of what BA did this past offseason. Kind of excited to see what he does this upcoming one. I don't feel like the sky is falling. There's still work to be done but they've accumulated so much to work with. I believe it'll all come together.

Edit: Ready for a coaching change though.

I know I've been posting how disappointed I am with the results of the season, but in truth, GMBA may not be giving the opportunity to make the right trades, he can't really afford a real hockey trade and with injuries...
Coach Tourigney can only do so much with this team. In the past, he has used the 11 - 7 - 1 pretty regularly with positive results, not so much this season. It shows me he has little confidence in the overall blueliners, not enough are playing like top 4Ds.

It kinda suxs that so many teams are fighting for that last playoff spot.

I voted to give him another year to manifest his vision. The reason, last year was a tire fire with all of the drama, and this year major injuries and just settling into a new city. Mostly injuries on D. We are not there yet and the original vision was that it was going to be a long road back. Stick with the plan and next year if we are not at least in a playoff position dig a little deeper. Note this is a midseason report; at the end of the season, I may change my vote, looking at the year as a whole. Overall though there has been so much change in the last 12 months, a little time and grace seems warranted.

That's the beauty of this form is different options but would love to hear why with the As
Wasn't I, but I can understand why. GMBA is excellent at drafting (getting the right scouts, picking the best prospects at their draft positions, and accumulating draft assets). It is too soon to fully critique the draft choices, but the overall trajectory looks great.
For this franchise, building through the draft is the best way to reach the promise land. And to try to build through the draft while accumulating the most lottery balls without a single win... BA is doing it the right way!

If this is a mid season report on BA, he gets an ok/pass rating. We have had injuries, and the move to Utah, still a young team, etc...all good reasons to be at an 80 point pace and miss the playoffs by 15+ points.

Most posters n this board feel warm and fuzzy because we have a lot of young players with "potential" that inspires hope for the future. We all have "hope" that But/Sim/Mav will make a difference and develop quickly. Let's not forget about Gormley/Runblad, Strome, the slow development of Hayton not meeting 5th pick expectations, the regression of Crouse/Maccelli this year.

BA/Bear are both on the hot seat with this being year 5/4 of the rebuild. We have never exceeded expectations, we are always at or under for the year as a team as a whole. I can see the reasons for keeping BA more so than Bear. But, I also see red flags in the length of time this is taking and the construction of the team, the results are not horrible but they are far from great as well.

I think the new owner and management will evaluate BA/Bear this summer. Usually, the coach gets shot first, BA can blame Bear and keep his job, if ownership wants changes. We shall see.....

Good point we should do a bear one once this one closes

The only thing with BA that drives me crazy is all the free passes he gives the team. We young rebuilding don't expect much... Fricking sandbagger

7 teams are our age or younger.. 7 ranked prospects... I also voted give him 1 more year but we better see some huge gains!!

I was thinking of voting A because the reality is, he’s somewhere between A and B for me. He doesn’t walk on water, but I also don’t feel the need to boot him after 1 more year. Ridiculous choices.
Only D says turf him. A everyone is drinking his koolaid. B Give another year before we hold him accountable. C His ass is on the line for team play but listen to see if he has a plan to improve with measurable goals.. D Try to salvage the season and start to hold people accountable. What choice did I leave out?

Hold him accountable for what after one more year? His rebuild has been fine so far up to this point. One of the only GMs in the league with the stones to actually blow it up completely. He accumulated assets by the bucket loads. These same assets need time to develop. You don’t just draft them, turn around and then bam, they’re all in your lineup and making significant contributions. These kids are teenagers when drafted, I’d give them until they’re at least 23 to start judging them. None of these players we have drafted are McDavid, Crosby, or even Celebrini tier.

Someone mentioned above about waiting until But and Simashev are on the roster to see how things look. Well that’s good and all, but if we’re talking about waiting until next year when both guys are rookies then be prepared for more complaining. Those two are also going to need 3 years or so to start making any significant contributions as well.

I think people who act like the rebuild should only take 4 to 5 years are crazy. That’s just the time it should take until we start seeing the first wave of prospects becoming impact players. Which is what we are seeing now with Cooley and Guenther. And no, I don’t think Armstrong walks on water. I’m just in the boat who thinks his positives far outweigh his negatives at the moment.
