Microwave safe? I don't think so.

So I bought a pie at the grocery.

piebox.jpg

It's a really small pie, and you can either heat it in the oven or microwave. I understand it's better in the oven but I don't want to want 40 minutes.

The pie comes with an aluminium thingy. I was afraid of putting it in the microwave but the instructions assured me it was fine.

So I diligently put it in the microwave for 2 minutes and a half.

Soon, the kitchen starts to smell really bad. Like if cement was melting or something. And there's smoke everywhere. Smoke's coming from the microwave.

So I open the microwave and take the pie out.

The glass thingy has a big black thing in the middle and the glass is melted under the pie. And even the plastic rotating mechanism underneath is all melted.

The pie looked innocent enough at first.

But underneath, there was a burn mark equivalent to the shape of the molten glass:

Seriously???

I just did as instructed.

Now I have to buy a new microwave.

I'm starting to think that the instructions on the pie box were intentionally misleading capitalist propaganda put there by microwave companies who want you to destroy your microwave so you have to buy more.

*grumbles*

I see no reason why the pie company shouldn't be the ones to buy you a new microwave. Pretty sure "microwave safe" is supposed to mean the product won't catch fire.

You just don't put it in the microwave full stop. Regardless what the instructions say.

So California
Get a hold of the company via social media and present this evidence. They will probably take care of it seeing that they don't want this accident prone disaster to happen to any other customers.

Also i noticed that the front of the box says 20 minutes in big letters while the instructions at the back for the traditional oven says that it takes 40 minutes.

Who the heck is responsible for their marketing? Karl Rove?

The back of the box says "40 minutes, or to your liking".

Perhaps some people like their pie with a frozen center.

"Our aluminum pie pans are microwave safe"

Easily the biggest ******** since ever.

SHould've removed the pan and cooked it, or used an oven and then use the pie pan.

This post had me laughing like crazy. So because the thing said microwave safe you thought putting metal in the microwave was safe?

Look, I feel bad, I understand you just followed the instructions but no matter what the instructions say putting metal in the microwave isn't ever safe. If your bread came with toasting instructions that said use a knife to retrieve bread from toaster would you do that too? Come on

But I still agree the instructions were BS and you should call the company up and try to get compensation. That's absolutely ridiculous that they'd claim it's safe to microwave metal :biglaugh:

Agreed. At the end of the day, the instructions were terrible. They owe you a new microwave IMO.

When was the last time you cleaned your microwave? A buildup of food residue can catch fire, you know.
