Never been a fan of Punk as a wrestler, but I hope he made some nice money from the beating he took last night. Takes a lot of balls to attempt what he did.

Why is Dana White being a dick about all of this? He's the one that signed him and tried to make him a big deal. That's his bad move. He should have realized what was going to happen. Did Dana White and Punk sit in a room and expect a different result?

What is going on here? Talk about bad for business..... You sign the guy knowing what we all know, hype the guy, and then call him out when he loses badly.

My best guess is Dana was probably hoping for a better outing after waiting 2 years for Punk to get ready

On the chance Punk wins, you need to keep him exclusive. He gets embarrassed and you kick him to the curb, how much is that really going to hurt your business?

I think Dana ****ed up trying to find a tomato can that wasn't too obviously a tomato can and picked a legit dude.

This is true. They wanted to give Punk a softball but Dana had no idea who Mickey was and now here we are.

I don't follow UFC too much, only PPVs. Is Dana the type of guy that would have literally signed Punk thinking he was sticking it to Vince, only to have it backfire on him?

I think he had legitimate business reasons for it. Dana respects Vince a lot. Dana probably feels pretty good business-wise for it, but dumb for getting that performance after a two-year wait.

A significant amount of hype died down after he didn't fight in the first year after signing, too.

Don't kid yourselves. Dana is just as big of a carny as Vince is.

Getting all mad because his big idea blew up in his face.

In the post-fight presser he said he was willing to fight at the lowest level promotion but the UFC deal fell into his lap.

When a reporter brought up the lopsided loss and how Punk would feel about the night he was nearly in tears. Damn.

Good for him for going through with it and all but...seriously?

The way he acted after the fight actually led me to believe he thought he had a shot at winning. Which means he actually thought him and Gall were even. It's like he was stunned he got his ass whooped, despite literally running right into a choke.

Dude had nothing and paid the price. If he actually thought he had a shot, then lol.

That Gall kid though looks like he might have a fairly bright future ahead of him.

You can't seriously expect someone to walk into the Octagon and think they are gonna lose.

I think Dana figured worst case Punk would pop a PPV buy rate. I'd be fairly certain that Dana knew this outcome was a distinct possibility. This isn't the first novelty fight that the UFC has promoted.

Uriah Faber is also bad. The guy is cooked... Great dude, humble as hell but he gets spoon fed opponents he should beat and ends up losing or having tons of trouble with them.

I just think Dana wasn't realizing how far apart Punk and Gall were. Phil made his opponent look like an absolutely killer. Obviously, as a promoter he's disappointed in what Punk has brought to the cage, but I don't believe it's Vince-level personal.
CM Punk pick up the white courtesy phone, Bellator is on line 1
It's not like Bellator fighters are some talentless cans too. The result would be the same, unless their pair him with a striker.

If he won, most would've said Gall wasn't a legit opponent.
If he lost, most would've said he didn't belong anyway.

I'm not bent out of shape over this. The guy can do what he wants. He took a chance and tried something different and it didn't go well. How many people here try things out of their comfort zone at risk of embarrassment?

I can see him trying a couple more fights to see if it's even it worth doing. He's got plenty of opportunities to make money elsewhere. I think he genuinely wanted to try MMA but he either got into it too late or he's just got to put the time in. Age is undefeated and he's closer to 40 than 30. He's going to have a challenge of ahead of him if he wants to keep at it.

Honest and humbled and emotional in spots...the guy is human. I don't understand any resentment or hate towards the guy.

If he wanted to try this 10 years ago...he wouldn't have been as famous and probably wouldn't have gotten fast tracked. He would've had to make his way up the ranks...like he did in wrestling. He was in the deep end right away and it didn't go well. He doesn't sound like he's giving up but he's got a ways to go if he wants to get where he wants to be.

I don't know whose idea it was for Punk to charge at Gall right out of the gate, but god, that was dumb.

team decision apparently. Punk said they thought Gall had never been pressured, so wanted to come out aggressive

did not work.
