Nobody is arguing that, but you can’t deny teams preferred some guys over Michkov because of the size and the position they play rather than the talent

There actually are people arguing that, that what you see now with 19 year olds is a linear extrapolation away from what they'll be at age 24.

And why wouldn't teams take into account a player's size, position, defensive ability, etc.. ? Is this supposed to be some scandal? Those factors can be given too much weight, and perhaps they were overweighted in this case, but nonetheless they are important factors to take into consideration.

I think the biggest factor was certainty. If Michkov was a guarantee to come over when he did, it would have been a different draft.

Once upon a time Sergei Samsonov and Joe Thornton broke into the league at the same time, same age, same team. And plenty of folks were convinced that Samsonov was going to be the much better player after he started out ahead for the first few years. Now Michkov is on a different level from Samsonov, but the point is that growth trajectories for players are not linear paths. I wouldn't be surprised if Leo ends up as a 90 pt player, and likely with elite two way ability. That's hard to pass up. And Fantilli is a mess right now but the player he is reminding a lot of people of is early career Mackinnon. The point is, it's very very early.

Samsonov compared to Michkov, lol. So we’re just going to assume Michkov will stagnate when he’s been a near generational type prospect ( by the numbers) since he was a kid. Carlsson surely will improve but so will Michkov. If Michkov seriously improves his top end speed, I think he has Hart / Art potential, I don’t see any of that with Carlsson. Nothing is a slam dunk but everything that’s happened so far for years and years suggests they’re in different tiers. I've been a huge fan of Carlsson for awhile too, I had him over Fantilli, it's entirely possible he becomes a top 10C in the league one day.

This is the problem with analogies. Even if you carefully note that Michkov is on an entirely different level from Samsonov, you can't use an example of different players following different growth paths without some bonehead saying "Samsonov compared to Michkov, lol". We simply cannot have a conversation.

I'm a bonehead because you used a piss poor analogy / strange player comparison. It's okay lil bro, it'll be alright. Joe Thornton was drafted 1st overall btw, no scouts or fans could of guessed he'd be a great player!:laugh:
