Joe is bad. There's a reason for the "Joe Shut Up" chant at the Garden.

Dave Maloney, right? I think he’s particularly underrated. Very enjoyable. Honest and willing to be critical but just cool and doesn’t take it all that seriously.

cool and doesn’t take it all that seriously lol

He may have moments of appeared calmness from a distance. Keeps his cool with limited spotlight.

lol, make no mistake, he is an absolute lunatic. I don’t think he’s mentally stable enough for a bigger chair.

I agree with others have said. I dump on Joe but if you can't dump on your announcers who can you dump on? He's good.

My only thing with Joe is that he's a bit of a mercenary. He's a broadcaster and he does whatever broadcast work comes his way. That's fine, he's a pro, but I would like his replacement to be a Rangers guy. Just a personal preference.

The Yankees almost exclusively have Yankees in their booth and it's something I enjoy. As you get older, you get to start hearing stories about things you saw.

It's why I love Gary, Keith, and Ron so dearly in the Mets' booth. Now, with GKR, they are actually insightful and do regularly explain things that I didn't otherwise understand, but what's really great is their chemistry, and their general charm. Baseball can be f***ing boring, but I could just listen to those three BS and reminisce all night long..

Gary is too much for me. Yes, baseball is boring yet i do enjoy Ron and Keith stories and perspective. Neither can run the show without Gary but Gary kills me. I don’t need every single, worthless stats or worthless info.

For example. Now batting Pete Smith

Gary - Pete was a born on a Thursday at small hospital known for inventing a device used with regularity. Want to guess what that was? The bandaid . . . Ball outside . . . you know his mother notice he had good penmanship writing with both hands. In a day when Moms forced the pencil into one hand it was Pete who couldn’t hold the pencil sharpener well in the other hand . . . off speed fouled off . . . so he changed hands when his mother wasn’t looking. His first glove was from a store not around today . . .

I find myself muting the TV so often. He kills me. Together ok, his worthless info, i can’t take it lol

the guys all need other work, look how much non-MSG work Kenny does (and Marv did)

re Yanks, my 2 most appreciated guys the last 20+ years were Singleton (never a Yank) and Kaat(barely, only 44 of ~890 MLB games)
they were knowledgeable and informative, but also good communicators and easy to listen to
these days, Cone and Flaherty do a decent job, and Paulie is so much better than when he started
but i won't mind if Michael Kay goes back to sportswriting or just does his daytime radio

Messer, White, Rizzuto - now that was a booth!

re Joe, i don't mind him but he is predictable and never tells something we didn't know
I like Dave, but admittedly partly because he is boy-Captain Dave Maloney
If Sam is replaced by Brendan Burke, I wouldn't mind

("At the age of 18, Maloney became the youngest player in Rangers history when he played his first game on December 18, 1974 and in 1978 became the youngest player to be named Rangers captain.")

I dont mind Joe, he doesn't add an awful lot but he also doesn't bother me at all. There's about a billion worse sports commentators out there so I think we're lucky to have one that isn't aggressively awful (see: Goring, Butch)

I think you might have a future in the booth.

Did I just see complaints about the METS broadcast? My god... they are far and away the best broadcast team in the country, for any sport, national or local. Be grateful!

Joe is just too unbiased. If you didnt know he was the Rangers commentator going into the game you wouldnt be able to tell which team employs him. And while that is perfectly fine for national broadcasts, it bothers me for local team broadcasts. Joe is not a bad guy, just not my flavor for my team. Not saying I want someone like Butch Goring or Jack Edwards (i know he is PBP), who are both painful to listen to, but maybe Dave Maloney? Danekyo isn’t bad either when it comes to the Devils.

It’s probably because he never played for the Rangers, what he does here is just work. Many other color guys around the league played for the team they’re covering, so there’s more attachment to the team for those guys.

Joe is good. I mean really, really, good. Fabulous even.

I'm a fan of his for similar reasons that nyr2k2 stated. I find his sense of humor funny. He has great chemistry with Sam. And he doesn't manage to be too much of a homer...which can't be said for the two color guys across the rivers.
