Proposal: Michael Hage, 16th & 17th for Caleb Desnoyers

Hage was the top C for Michigan at a PPG in his freshman season. That’s in a league that is significantly more challenging than the Q.

at this stage there is no guarantee that Deynoyer will be a better player. Therefore, it makes zero sense to trade Hage plus 1st round picks for Deynoyer.

I can see Hage joining the Habs next offseason. He should be NHL ready after another season of college hockey.

Desnoyers has a fairly vocal percentage of fans on the Hawks board looking to take him 3rd OA. The sentiment is that he's a winner / team first / leader kind of player, Toewsesque, with a 2LC maybe 1LC ceiling and 3LC floor
So who knows he could be gone before 4 rolls around.

Would not be surprised at all. After 2OA, I don t see a lot of difference between the 4 next guys. Bedard, Desnoyers, Nazar, Moore make 4 of your potentially top 6 players able to play center. Never a bad problem to have. That being said I would not be surprised either if they go Martone for the size factor.

I saw a Marc D'Amico podcast where he said Hage would go top 10 if he was part of this year's draft class. So I'm curious how much better Desnoyers is vs Hage?

Feels like way too much to include 16th, 17th, and Hage but I'm no scout.

It would be idiotic to add 2 x 1sts to Hage for a guy who may not be any better. Hage is a much more dynamic player but Desy is a better two way player.

Yeah let's for fun say NYI take Hagens 1OA and San Jose takes Schaffer then the Hawks most likely take Misa. If NYI take Schaffer and San Jose takes Misa it's one of either Martone or Desnoyers for the Hawks with a possibility of Frondell / Eklund. At least this is the way Hawk fans are mostly seeing it.

I mean Nashville pretty much just tried this same thing a couple of years ago and no one in top 5 would take it. Yeah it was Askarov and not Hagens, but there isn't enough difference there to make a difference imo.

I think the one team in the top 5 that would have done it might have been the Islanders, but being they have the first overall there is no way they are giving that up.

If Nashville didn't already have three picks in the first and two in the second they might have, but as is I don't think Trotz will see the value in picking 4 times in the first when he has been after a top 5 pick the last two years.
