Proposal: Michael Hage, 16th & 17th for Caleb Desnoyers

That’s way too high of a price for a prospect like Desnoyers - he isn’t even that much better than Hage, really. Certainly not enough to add two 1sts in the teens to Hage. This is a weak draft; I don’t think Desnoyers would’ve even went in the top 10 last year, and certainly not in some of the stronger years. Easy pass for MTL.

As a Flyer fan whose team is likely to pick Caleb, this trade is intriguing to me.....tempting....I have heard pretty good things about hage and 2 first round picks make this a fair deal....

As a Flyers fan, I wouldn’t do it, I would if it was a deeper draft. That being said I don’t think it’s especially great for Montreal either. I’m a believer in Desnoyers though but this draft is kinda meh. We’ll see, also I think Hage is a great prospect for where he was selected, Habs did well.

Nothing against Desnoyers, but I like Hage more.
Last year draft was much deeper. And I’m not sure Desnoyers would be top-15 pick in 2024

With his playoff he’s going in the 7-8 range imo. Has a solid case for 6 over Tiji too. 100% doesn’t surpass Demidov or anyone in the top 5 imo

Were he available in 2024, I would personally have Desnoyers 6th, displacing Silayev in my Draft 2024 list and slotting after Celebrini, Demidov, Dickinson, Buium, and Levshunov in that order.

If you look at pure pick value depending on the chart you use, picks 16+17 ALONE would be enough for a pick within the 4-7 range.

Adding Hage on top of that would be overkill.

The only way I'd do it if I was Montreal's GM would be if someone like Michael Misa was available.

And let's just say that is isn't happening.

I could see teams being wary of drafting a player in the NCAA who committed after their draft based on how that's gone for quite a few teams recently playing out their ELC and then saying they won't sign with the team that drafted them. For that reason and the value being close I could see teams declining.

I could also see teams accepting because it's pretty good value and I could see teams being fans of guys currently ranked in that range more than Desnoyers.

As a Seattle fan I would personally do it if I thought Hage would sign here because I think the quality drop off between 8 and 16 isn't too high.

I can get on board with all of this, generally agree.

These draft value algorithms which try to make numeric equivalents between a pick and a package of picks fail to consider the amount of variability in high end talent each year.

This year the talent appears to scouts to drop off quite early.

My team isn’t very high on Hage it appears from passing on him last year.

No chance the hawks make this deal with the amount of draft capital they already have. They would just take Desnoyers over this package.

Think it’s just bad for all teams involved it doesn’t make any sense both teams hang onto their assets and let the chips fall unless for some reason either org is obsessed with one of the players involved

I know OP doesn't want Habs fans POV, but, I'm still chiming in

His initial trade offer also had Reinbacher FWIW, that said, even this offer, I wouldn't be sure about it

Reason is simple, that base is enough by itself to land an actual 2C and if not it's very close, I'd rather take that path at this point then trade it for a prospect seen as a potential 2C. I don't see Desnoyers as a 1C and if he is he'd be a 25/32 1C type.

Hage also had a very good D+1 season and on a redraft probably goes around 10-14 if that draft was today.

While some seem to indicate quality over quantity the quality here between Hage and Desnoyers isn't that far off. There's a gap and mainly because Desnoyers does look certain at center mainly.

Can you image the pressure Desnoyers would have if that deal is made? Knowing Montreal fans they would riot in the street if the kid didn’t pan out as expected and Hage did
