Proposal: Michael Hage, 16th & 17th for Caleb Desnoyers

I agree, Hage is a former first rounder who looked real good in his first year at Uni. Desnoyers maybe French but that should not be factored into what his worth is. He can go anywhere from 5 to 10 at this point in time. Montreal COULD get a lot more for the package than Desnoyers

BTW

He will go between 3 and 7, and I would jump for joy as a Bruins fan if he made it to 7.

I think hans should use their assets to get a a 2 c that fit the team. 2026 first rounder, Reinbacher, both first this year, other prospects should also be on the table not mentioned, but they should not include Hage, he bleeds red white and blue, and if possible exclude Fowler aswell. Montreal is 1 team that can make good offers this summer

Reinbacher should most definitely NOT be on the table. 2-way RHD like how he's rounding out are too damn valuable. Their teen picks this year sure, probably one of Primeau or Dobes, I could see Mailloux being part of a package too. But not Reinbacher.

As for the OP:

I don't know if any team in the 3-8 range would make the deal. Desnoyers' draft stock has risen all year, can't see most teams at that point being willing to take two kicks at the can this year and Hage seems like a slice or two below Desnoyer prospect-wise now.

Hage just had a great year in the NCAA. Why do Habs fans want to trade him so much?

Desnoyers is probably the better player but he just as easily could not be. If Hage put up PPG in the NCAA in his D-1 he'd have gone top 10. I don't really get this thread.

I want the opinion of neutral fans. I've been roasted for proposing this on the Montreal board, so I wonder what you guys think.

Do you think the value is reasonable for both sides? Forget any Montreal factor, just purely in value.

Thanks!

Say he's projected 6-9 in the draft

Nobody is trading down from there to 16 and 17. Its a huge difference in this draft

Buffalo us currently at 9. They aren't trading down for more magic beans

Ateam needing to rebuild and starting now like Boston might do this

If Hage was currently available for the 2025 draft, where would he get selected? Top 10 seems plausible to me.

you know the offer last year was Chicago's 2025 first for your 5thOA 2024. It can still happen.

I think it has to do with the evaluation of when he can jump on the main roster and help the team compete. The team lacks a real 2C, can Hage be that guy "quick enough" alongside the other guys present atm? Could Desnoyers be this guy faster? Or could any establish 2C be a logical reinforcement on shorter term (if so, Hage probably is an asset Habs would have to trade)?

Purely value, ok.

According to Examining the value of NHL Draft picks - Sound Of Hockey

the 16th and 17th picks are equivalent to the 4th pick.

If you add the 21st pick (Hage rank, adding no premium for his great D+1), it adds up to a bit more than the value of the 2-OA. The site assigns 218, 260 plus 272 points, totalling 750. The second pick is worth 727 points.

From a purely value point of view, making this trade makes sense if you think Desnoyers is slightly better than the typical 2nd best overall draft pick.

The value seems fair on both sides but i like Hage and i'd rather keep him and the picks.

Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle were all mid 1st rounders and are a huge part of our core. Mid 1sts are underrated.

He doesn't speak French. That's enough for a lot of the fans and the media in Montreal. That's why they've been pushing a Slafkovsky for Lafreniere trade this week.
He speaks an excellent french.

Desnoyers has a lot if hype right now, probably rightfully so. Some people are enamoured with the prospect... I've even seen him ranked in the top 5 over guys like Hagens by some lists. If you think he's the 3rd best player in the draft, it *might* make sense to offer 3 mid first for him. I don't think so, personally, and I love Desnoyers.

Let's not make that another "because he speaks french", please.

No, I don’t think it’s a French thing. I think it’s a bored and speculating to pass the time thing.

No one does including most Habs fans.

maybe a couple of fans want to trade him; the majority of us don't.
It would be a stupid move, imo

I see Hage becoming that guy faster than Desnoyer having an extra year and having played top-line production in college (a much more challenging league than the Q). Also Hage is more dynamic than Desnoyer, though Desy has a much better 200ft game.
