Proposal: - Michael Hage, 16th & 17th for Caleb Desnoyers | Page 3 | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League

Proposal: Michael Hage, 16th & 17th for Caleb Desnoyers

If I was Nashville I would do it team is lacking prospects/youth all around and getting back a center prospect and 2 1sts te restock the cupboard seems useful as I don't see Hage all that far behind desoyners or o'brien also allows them more wiggle room in planning for the future
Edit: if I was Philly I wouldn't do it as they are lacking high end center prospects and to me Hage is luchacko territory as a mid six c prospect with a shot at being a top 6 c
We already have three 1sts and two 2nds in this draft. We need to draft a quality player at 5, no way would I do this for Nashville, we're falling 11 spots in this deal.

The more I think about it Nashville should trade 5 for 16 and 17 along with Hage considering they have 2 other picks and with it being a steep drop off after hagens getting 4 picks plus Hage who looked decent this year seems like a higher chance of getting at least 2 hits in one draft they could target kindel, ravensbergen, zonnon, spence, potter, reschny, aitcheson, or maybe a draft day faller allowing them to have a glut of prospects to get filtered in as their vet movement declines as I see seem having 3 more attempts with the roster at maximum before they decide to rebuild it would be a savy move for them to do now before starting to rebuild putting them in prime position to a team in a very comfortable place however a second round pick and maybe a roster player to Montreal to even out the value
We need quality not quantity, we already have quantity.

I'd probably do that as a Bruins fan if Desnoyers fell to #7. Hage would immediately become their top prospect and they'd get two swings in the middle of the first (who would probably become their second and third best prospects).
That's what I was thinking. If Desnoyers falls to 7OA to Boston, they would probably do it.

If I were Utah, I'd probably give it a thought. Couple factors come to mind:

How did Utah feel about Hage going into last year's draft? It was probably my Michigan bias, but I had Hage ranked higher than where he went. I was curious if some teams were worried if he'd be a flight risk. His younger brother Alexander committed to Michigan but won't be a freshman until Fall 2026. So it wouldn't be surprising if Michael stayed as a junior so they two could have at least one season together. If he ended up staying through his senior year, then maybe certain teams might be worried that the allure of free agency could be there.

And did Utah already highly covet somebody pre-lottery when they were slotted at #14? I'm reminded of the Islanders in 2000 winning the lottery and moving from #5 to #1. Then on draft day they did a trade to get #5 (Raffi Torres). For months the Islanders probably figured they'd be picking 5th (Atlanta was runaway in the basement and Minnesota/Columbus were slotted #2/3 as expansion teams), so they probably had Torres penciled in before winning the lottery. Although in those days, they did the lottery in early June so the Islanders were probably further along with their draft prep than Utah was a couple weeks ago.

Although offhand, it looks like this draft gets a bit murky after the top 12/13.

I don't think anyone in the top-5 would trade down for that package, which is basically what you have to do because Philly is 100% taking Desnoyers at 6 if he lasts to that spot.

I think the top-10 is looking something like:

1. NYI: Schaefer
2. San Jose: Misa
3. Chicago: Frondell
4. Utah: Martone
5. Nashville: Hagens
6. Philly: Desnoyers
7. Boston: O'Brien
8. Seattle: Martin
9. Buffalo: Mrtka
10. Anaheim: McQueen

So to get Desnoyers, you need to trade up to #5 or higher and I don't really see anyone in the top-5 moving down for that.
I don't see any players out of the top 2 I'd trade these assets for from a Habs POV.

Nope. The fact is Hage could be as good as Desnoyers. The fun begins after the first two picks. James hagans in the biggest wild card in the draft
I think it's the same way. I wouldn't be surprised to see Desnoyers go to Chicago at 3 or Seattle at 8.
Mrtka will probably be drafted much higher than people think or atleast one other defender will enter the top 10.

Problem is you have to motivate the other team to want to trade that pick too.

From Anaheim perspective I don’t think 17th + hage makes me want to trade the 10
I'm fine with that really. I'd rather trade the picks for someone more established or picking.
Pick value are at their lowest at the TDL and at their highest come draft day.

I think hans should use their assets to get a a 2 c that fit the team. 2026 first rounder, Reinbacher, both first this year, other prospects should also be on the table not mentioned, but they should not include Hage, he bleeds red white and blue, and if possible exclude Fowler aswell. Montreal is 1 team that can make good offers this summer

To be fair you were roasted because your initial offer was also including Reinbacher on top of Hage + 2 x 1st 2025.

But, but, but... he speaks French.

It's my turn to "pollute" the thread, answering all those who say Caleb Desnoyers is not a top-5 pick. Prepare to get shocked when he is selected by CHI at 3.

I think it's the same way. I wouldn't be surprised to see Desnoyers go to Chicago at 3...

I think there's a better chance of O'Brien going 3rd overall.

I like desoyners but I feel some of the best players might emerge later in the draft where a guy like desoyners could be a great player but go much lower in a re-draft ùnless your in love with someone outside the big 4 I don't see so much discrepancy between say 5-12 then a tier of 13-27

We've already got two more 1sts, we're keeping 5 and hoping Hagens falls.

Preds don't need 4 lower half 1sts in this mid of a draft. We'll pick at 5 and probably one of the low/mid 20 picks, and I'm figuring trade the other for additional later picks. We've had like one top 5 pick in the last two decades. Barring a stupid return we're picking there.

Would not put that much into a QMJHL prospect. Keep your prospect/picks. Only 2 players have become legit NHL players from the 2017 draft and on. Hischier and Dobson. The next best is Lafreniere.

QMJHL doesn't develop players as well as they used to and the style of play that goes on there, currently, is very defensively deficient.

Don't pollute the thread with irrelevant information, all I want to know is what neutral fans think. I was roasted for both proposals.
As you should have been. Habs pass on the original offer but i would be tempted to package both 1st rd picks and a different prospect for Desnoyers,

Other teams won't take the bait for that. We don't have any other valuable prospect other than Reinbacher and Fowler.

I think guys like Beck, Mailloux, Dobes all have decent value. Maybe not equivalent to mid 1st rounder, but legit NHL talents imo.
