I want the opinion of neutral fans. I've been roasted for proposing this on the Montreal board, so I wonder what you guys think.

Do you think the value is reasonable for both sides? Forget any Montreal factor, just purely in value.

Thanks!

To be fair you were roasted because your initial offer was also including Reinbacher on top of Hage + 2 x 1st 2025.

Don't pollute the thread with irrelevant information, all I want to know is what neutral fans think. I was roasted for both proposals.

I don't think anyone in the top-5 would trade down for that package, which is basically what you have to do because Philly is 100% taking Desnoyers at 6 if he lasts to that spot.

I think the top-10 is looking something like:

1. NYI: Schaefer
2. San Jose: Misa
3. Chicago: Frondell
4. Utah: Martone
5. Nashville: Hagens
6. Philly: Desnoyers
7. Boston: O'Brien
8. Seattle: Martin
9. Buffalo: Mrtka
10. Anaheim: McQueen

So to get Desnoyers, you need to trade up to #5 or higher and I don't really see anyone in the top-5 moving down for that.

OK but ignoring the realities of specific teams and the draft order, what do you think of the value in the abstract?

I definitely wouldn't do this from a Montreal perspective. I would trade two of those three pieces to get Desnoyers, but not all three.

I agree, Hage is a former first rounder who looked real good in his first year at Uni. Desnoyers maybe French but that should not be factored into what his worth is. He can go anywhere from 5 to 10 at this point in time. Montreal COULD get a lot more for the package than Desnoyers

Are you a Montreal fan?

It isn't a value issue. I could trade enough assets to make any trade seem like good value.

If you had a top 5 pick would you trade down for that? I doubt it. I personally wouldn't.
If I held #5 this would be a very tempting offer. The value going the other way is just insane.

The closes comp I could remember on the top of my head is Nashville offering Askarov, #15 and #21 for #5, which Montreal turned down. I do think it had a lot to do with Askarov not being worthwhile as the main piece for Montreal if a similar C prospect as Hage would have been offered Montreal might have done that deal.

Do people really think Desnoyers is a top-5 pick?

I think if you forsure want him you need a top 5 pick. I have him at 5 personally.

I think this also depends on the team. The Ducks are coming out of a rebuild and have a ton of prospects. We don't need more mid 1sts. We need a last shot at a top of the lineup player.

A team just starting to bottom out might be more willing.

Yeah I think this is more of the issue than anything. Philly has like 7 picks in the top-45 this year, why would they trade down from 6 to get 2 more?

In the top-6, I don't think any of the top-3 trade down for that value, while Utah and Philly don't need more picks. That leaves Nashville at #5, but if Hagens slips to #5, I don't think there's any chance that they pass on him. I don't think Desnoyers lasts beyond pick #6.
