MDZ's skill was always there, it's his head.

Just like how everyone underrates a superstar goal scorers playmaking ability, the same thing is done about supremely talented offensive defensemen.

People on here actually thought Nash was a below average passer, which is completely false. The same way people think Erik Karlsson and PK Subban suck defensively, which isn't remotely true.

MDZ is legitimately good defensively, he was good defensively in the OHL. What he has always struggled with is his consistency, which is improving. His offensive game has been disappointing, but it will come.

HF is bipolar. Trade MDZ, trade Step, we want dubie and Artie back, prust can go to hell, $2.5M or whatever it takes!

As a hypocrite myself, I hope to hear "Torts for the JA" soon.

When I saw this title. I thought it was a joke.

Maybe I'll start one that says Halpern to score 20 this year

So did I, and to be honest I still can't figure out if it is, or not. Considering the beating he took in here the past weeks, I thought it was one of those "reversed jinx things".. :)

IMO, Del Zotto is ok defensively, but sometimes he is all over the place. And some of his pinching attempts are very badly timed. Calling him terrific defensive player is quite a long stretch, IMO. Still has time to learn though.

Oh man, I'm gonna chalk this thread up to St. Patrick's Day

Or you can chalk it up to MDZ being a better player than all of the biased people on this board want to admit.

MDZ's been good this year. McD made as many gaffes last game as MDZ makes in his worst game and I don't think McD got even a quarter of the flogging that MDZ would've gotten.

I'd like to trade him and turn him into : a real PMD/ PPQB, OR a 2C or a wing who could score

With the exception of Staal before his injury, not one Ranger defense man plays angry enough or with any sort of edge. This drives me nuts. If I were an opposing player I'd be thrilled to just camp out in front of Hank. Wouldn't be a bruise on my back the next day.

I totally agree, the top 4 is good enough but they have no edge at all. That goes for the rest of the team as well.

You're not allowed to stand in front of the net on this team, you have to be way up on the circles blocking shots.

I like Del Zotto. I don't want to trade him. I hope he stays a Ranger for a long time. But he's far from terrific. At anything. Especially defense.

MDZ can't carry McD's jockstrap defensively especially as it relates to positioning and decision making.

Think back to Del Zotto's performance vs the Devils in the last 3 games of that series.

Defense.

And offense, back in the first half of the season.

Defense? You mean when he isn't drawing straws on the ice for the best way to get the puck out of our end or when he leaves a player completely uncovered in front of the net to double up on a player behind the net?
Face facts, his hockey smarts leave a lot to be desired.

Offensively, everybody was raving about him in the middle of January that he has finally "gotten it?".

Meanwhile, he has a grand total of 2 assists in the past 7 weeks and his shot couldn't hit a soccer net!

Gotta give credit where credit is due.
Last month, I trashed Stepan and since then, he's been great, certainly one of our best players.
Last week, I posted a bunch of negative stuff on Del Zotto and now he has had perhaps his best two games as a Ranger back to back.

A dose of negativity by me goes a long, long way. I stand here a humbled and happier Ranger's fan!
